We're the second worst program in this conference only to KU. Every week people go through the same things of why Rhoads will give us hope. Cutting ties with Mangino will not equal a win like so many here believe it will for some reason.

From ShaggyTexas at 6:08pm: The Austin Tower officially closed at 6pm. All flights that are waiting on the taxiway (like the flight the team is on) will have to call Houston on the phone and get clearance from them. Right now the team is #2 for takeoff. Here's hoping they get out and there are no more distractions.

They just took off... https://flightaware.com/live/flight/UAL2220

I predict that the extent to which Lyndon Baines Johnson was complicit in the assassination of John F. Kennedy will never be exposed.

History tells me too many predicting ISU win = huge run on nut cups for this game. Sorry. Hope like hell I'm wrong.

Hope you're not right too.
Just a feeling team will rally around Lanning. Fight hard for Rhoades and send message they will not go quietly in to the gentle night.
Sense a rock fight mentality on both sides of ball with 60k plus screaming lunatics having their backs.

I think it will be low scoring.

My impression is Texas' offense is not flashy, but solid. So they will score some but not like a Baylor/TCU pace. Their defense should be rugged against new ISU rushing attack. 21 points might be enough to win the game.

Texas 20 ISU 13. A late TD before half or end of game is the difference.

Caveat- if ISU can get a score on defense or special teams, or maybe if Swoopes drops a steamer on the field, that changes the outcome.

We are not the 2nd worst team in th conference and tomorrow will prove that. Getting rid of MM was a blessing watch. How bad are we? We lost to the #2,4,10 and 20th ranked team in the country. We domintted that 20th ranked team too btw. The #10 team game was tied with 4min to play. We held two top 5 teams to their lowest yards and lowest points ytd sans Minn/tcu game. TT was that one game a year aberration. We aren't as bad as a lot on here think. We have completely beat ourselves in some games. Toledo game totally changed season trajectory. Oh and our staring qb has been horrid when we need him most during games. This team is starting over with a renewed vigor and honesty I'll be shocked if we don't win. And 3 weeks ago I would have never said that or even come close to it.

Just feel like something is different and the change to Lanning was a wake up call to the entire team the way he plays.

Most of the talk around Austin this week can basically be summarized as:

1) everyone's back on the Longhorn bandwagon after 2 straight wins
2) no one remembers that we played Texas to the last second each of the last 2 years
3) no one remembers that Iowa State plays in the same conference as Texas
4) no one knows what an Iowa is

With all the focus on ISU's offense this week, and with Texas back in the hunt for the bowl game and @Big12Refs in town after already screwing Texas over badly against OSU, I feel like one of the following outcomes is likely:

a) The "new offense" lays a complete egg and we lose something like 30-7. At some point in the first half, while the game is still close, an obvious, game-changing call goes against ISU. We receive a new addition to the apology wall.

b) The offense plays well but the defense, out of the spotlight this week, breaks at the wrong time and allows a game-winning drive in the closing minute. At some point in the drive, Texas converts a 3rd-and-13+ with the aid of an obvious, game-changing call going against ISU. We lose and receive a new addition to the apology wall.

In other words, I don't really foresee an outcome that doesn't involve a nutshot.

Austin had 15 inches of rain today after big storms last week of 25 inches north of Waco...a storm is coming....more siren after third down like TCU does.

I was like you a season or two ago. We ARE the 2nd worst team in the conference, it is a really good conference to be fair, but I'd be willing to bet that the end of the year sees ISU 9th and KU 10th in the standings.

This guy gets it. Every season week by week we try to excuse why our record is as bad as it is and how a change here or there in the staff or at a position will change things....and it doesn't.

Good teams find ways to win, especially the close games. You can make millions of excuses why we didn't win those games, but in the end moral victories don't get you to a bowl game.

I'm thinking of the possibility the game going completely the Cyclones' way. If ISU punches the Longhorns in the mouth not once, but a few times early, I think the Horns will get down on themselves, and ISU cruises to victory. UT has the look of being an emotionally fragile team. ISU 38, UT 17.

You are correct. However, here at ISU as the head coach, they can certainly help promote what you are selling and make you a very wealthy person. With that said.....UT has the talent to make this ugly. To me what is scary is that they might be figuring this out. You don't beat OU in one of the biggest rivalries in the country because you are just lucky. I don't know if they have all the kinks worked out...I do know however we don't regardless of how CPR is arranging the chairs. Hopefully being at JTS and this sense of newness with MM out and Lanning starting will be enough to give the guys a chance.

Texas is like ISU in that the opponents have few losses (ND, Cal, oSu, TCU vs Iowa, Toledo, TCU, Baylor). But where they differ is that they have demonstrated they can beat good teams (like OU - KSU isn't any good but they are better than any team ISU has beaten thus far).

Like I said UT is talented, but fragile, and ISU cruises with a higher point differential than I predicted.
