Assuming Hornacek is a no, this is why I'm on #TeamTJ. Let's see what one of our own can do again.

For the record, Brad Underwood DOES have the same coaching style as Hoiberg.

Cubs, this isn't even remotely true. At least in terms of the style he puts on the court. SFA play much more intense defense, and takes their time on offense.

Barring a surprise homerun hire, give me:

1. Hornacek
2. Underwood
3. TJ

Hornacek because how often does a college team like ISU steal a sitting NBA head coach.

And since we like to give assistants all of the credit for recruiting but none of them blame for coaching failures (*cough* TJ/McDermott *cough*), I'd take Underwood as my second choice. He did pretty damn well at K-State under Frank Martin. And has lost 1 conference game, and 8 games total, in 2 years at SFA...with 2 NCAA tournament berths and one tournament win.

If we can't get those 2, I'm fine with TJ.

okay, so I'm a biased Valpo alumnus-

Drew would be a fantastic choice. He has the NBA cred and like Fred, he was forced to quit the NBA because of surgery. He knows NBA sets, but plays to his strengths. Also, VU left the now defunct MidCon and joined a tougher (re Butler) conference and is now thriving. Valpo got screwed on a no-call foul against Maryland this year, and could have advanced a game or two.

I would also add that I am proud of Scott Drew- he was really gracious in loss to our guys two years ago, entering our locker room to pay congrats.

First off...many of you have no idea what you are saying. Underwood is a heck of a coach. Can't believe Archie Miller turned down that kind of money and Florida to boot to stay at Dayton. Lastly, you missed one CW...Dwayne Stevenson associate HC at Mich state. Been with IZzo for decade, arguably best asst recruiter in country, great player development coach, IZZO has raved about his progress as a coach in last few years. He's been to multiple final fours with Mich st and Marquette. Hiring him brings Bridges likely and retaining TJ gets you a staff that might be the top recruiting staff in the country.

I like that TJ seems to be a great recruiter. I still wonder how we got Brackins and wasn't that him as lead recruiter?

I think I may be in this camp too unless we can land a slam dunk name with a winning college or NBA resume.

Whomever they hire they need to make sure they are a good recruiter or that there are great recruiters on staff and please no boring slow basketball.

It's got to be him. Pay him whatever it takes.

I want Hornacek too. But we shouldn't back up the money truck. Make him a reasonable offer. If he passes, move on to the next guy. Let's not mortgage the athletic department on a semi-unknown.

I've said repeatedly that I don't follow MBB outside of Iowa St, Big XII and in-state. So my opinion on this means little (big surprise)

But emphatic no to Jarod Hasse, screams flash in the pan. Keno Davis, Turner Gill, (Greg McDermott)

And although it's unfair Bryce Drew leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Not his brother, and I'm actually somewhat a fan of Scott. But it just doesn't come off right.

Never thought of Nick Nurse. Not sure that he's a good hire necessarily. But it's intriguing.

As opposed to TJ's? I don't want Haase here, he just has a better assistant coach resume than TJ and has been a head coach. IMO TJ is the least desirable guy on the list. A 100% backup plan who has recruited a couple 4* guys. An assistant with his resume with no ISU ties would get torn apart on here if mentioned as a candidate.

I do not support a TJ hire.

I'm with you (except my #2 is Underwood). But TJ isn't exactly one of our own. I mean he left the program for, at best, a lateral move (more like a step down) to go to Washington.

Order of Preference:
Jeff Hornacek, head coach of the Phoenix Suns - Brings NBA credibility and like Fred has played for some of the best minds in basketball.

T.J. Otzelberger, Iowa State assistant coach - Great recruiter, no head coaching experience but style is likely going to be like Hoiberg. Loves ISU. Not flashiest hire but may have highest potential.

Leon Rice, Boise State head coach - Huge turnaround at Boise State. Good recruiter, has similar style and approach to the game to Fred. Friends with Fred and would likely have Fred's support.

Nick Nurse, Toronto Raptors assistant (Iowa native) - Over achieves everywhere he goes. Has NBA and Dleague experience. Very well respected by those he has coached. If ISU does not hire him someone will soon and he will be very good.
