So I'm going to need to get haircuts regularly while on campus this fall but I'm not from the area. Are there any reliable barber shops on/near campus? thanks.

I went to All Cuts when I was in school. It was on Lincoln Way across from Friley.

So when Troy took it over, is it still called "Monty's?" That is where I went for a hair cut. Hoiberg got his hair cut there and it should get all credit for coining the phrase "In Fred we trust."

I know everyone will be shocked to learn that when Troy took over he re-named the establishment "Troy's".

In 2003 I got a hair cut in this weird place upstairs on Lincoln Way. Guy was smoking marijuana when I walked in. Butchered my hair so I had to go somewhere else after class to redo it.

I hope it's not the same guy you are all talking about.

Troy's hours suck. Got a haircut from him once. It was pretty good. Walk-ins only though.

If you need a line up, Joe the Barber is great. My friend goes to him and loves it. Most of the football/basketball team goes as well.

If you're looking for "style" or whatever. There is "The Groom Room". Costs the same as great clips, and a couple more than Troy's but it's the best haircut place in Ames for guys. They call themselves a modern barbershop or something. Never had a bad haircut. I even went last August and said "do a haircut that would fit my style" and showed them pictures of me out. Loved the haircut.

Troy is over by Mother's Pub. I'm assuming Monty was there too.

I went to school and was in the Ames area for a decade or so. Only went to Monty's, now Troy's, and the Groom Room. As said above, the Groom Room is $20ish and they do a great job. Have to schedule an appointment. Troy's is walk in only and is $13, cash/check only. Now I only go to Troy's as I will just stop if in the area and don't need an appointment.

I have seen black guys at both.

I used to go to sports clips. That was like $22 each time. Bought a $25 clippers at TJ Max and decided to start buzzing my hair. That decision has saved me a lot of money.
