Manalli was also a suspect in the Santa Rosa Hitchhiker murders in the early 70s. His handwriting is the closest match I have seen to the Zodiac letters, but the one thing that makes me think he was Zodiac's partner was this personal ad from the S.F. Chronicle TWO DAYS after Manalli was killed in a traffic accident.

"ZODIAC Your partner is in DEEP REAL ESTATE. You're next. The Imperial Wizard can save you. Surrender to him or I'll terminate your case. R.A."

Maybe like 3 months, but have been reading about the Zodiac case for a few years. Another interesting story... this suspect often made his wife carry and transport weapons for him. Some of the smaller deliveries. He did the major ones. He also used to beat on his wife pretty bad. A few years after she killed him, she wrote a book called "It Gave Everybody Something to Do."

Anyways, the couple are out in NY shortly after this Chicago murder takes place and the FBI are looking for the husband to question him about the murder. He makes the wife take some packages to United Airlines for them to hold for him. One of the packages is dropped by an employee (IIRC) and the package is slightly damaged and it is revealed that a gun is inside. Airport security opens the other packages and finds several weapons including machine guns and a flamethrower!! This is in Dec. 1966.

A man named J. Curtis Earl used to accompany the Thoresen's on gun runs and he had a thing for Louise. He testified in her defense in her trial in 1968 (for the NY arrest), but he also was an informant for the FBI and ATF. He tipped off the ATF about Bill's illegal stash, which is why his S.F. mansion was raided and the 77 tons of weapons and ammo found. I think he wanted Bill out of the way so he could sleep with Louise. Curtis was a huge gun nut as well. He sold them and collected them on a large scale. He was a legit businessman though, and Bill Thoresen just bought anything he could find, not caring about proper registration. Most likely because the weapons were going to Cuba or to Anti-Communist groups.

I haven't even read the wife's book yet because it's not easy to find for a decent price. A man that knew J. Curtis Earl pretty well told me that I will learn a whole lot more once I read the book, so I can't wait to do so.

It gets better though.....

Some Zodiac researchers have investigated a well-known millionaire named Kjell Qvale. They referred to him as Mr. X because he was still alive at the time, but he is dead now so it's ok to use his real name. On the night of the murder on Washington & Cherry, police encountered Qvale standing in a driveway just a couple blocks from the murder scene. Qvale lived on the same block as the driveway he was standing on. One officer says Qvale was walking his dog, but another officer does not recall him having a dog. I personally believe that Qvale was somehow involved and that the Zodiac hid in Qvale's home after the murder. I have been trying to link Qvale to Bill Thoresen. No luck yet, but they did have one thing in common. Thoresen collected Ferrari's. He did not even know exactly how many he owned or where they were all located. He said he thought one was over in Italy but could not be sure. Qvale was one of California's top importer of sports vehicles, most of which came from Europe. This doesn't prove that they knew each other, I know. They did live about 7-8 blocks from each other. Thoresen was also very good behind the wheel and was said to have been an amateur race car driver. Qvale also was well known in the horse racing world. He owned a horse called Slinky Sullivan or something like that.

The Thoresen mansion was located at 2801 Broadway and Qvale's home was 3636 Jackson St. On this map, you will also see where the murder scene was at Washington & Cherry although it is not marked.

In my very amateur opinion, I would profile the Zodiac killer as an introvert, with a closed personality, who was looking for attention, and recognition.

Your guy seems to be a very wealthy person, who was well connected with society.

But again, I've only read the stories, and know little else. I do agree though that the killings could be the work of more than one suspect, or someone else pulling the puppet strings.

Yeah, that is where I found a man with the same name living on Palm Ave, a mile or so south of the murder scene. But it is possible that my suspect didn't know that the architect had moved and went to his prior address. Maybe he gave too much info away to the cab driver and had to shoot HIM instead... Actually, my suspect... I am not sold on him being the actual killer, but I do think he played a major role in Zodiac's crimes. I think he had Zodiac doing his dirty work. This guy MIGHT have even had ties to the JFK assassination.

If anyone is really interested in this stuff and would like to know more, PM me and I will give you a link to a new Zodiac forum that me and a few friends put together. I have gathered a ton of info on this guy. He was a suspect in a 1966 murder of the daughter of a man who was about to become a senator. This guy even had his own brother murdered by a hitman and then murdered the hitman a year later. He also tried to push his mother off of a second story window ledge because (probably) she was trying to have him committed. The guy was a true piece of work!
