Moline for work

Hey y'all

So I just found out last week that I have to opportunity to return to the Mid-west from California. I would just like some first person experience with Moline. Would like a place near a downtown/bars area. Is this possible in Moline or more likely in Bettendorf? I'm 25 and no family.

I'm actually in the process of moving to Davenport, as well. I think there was a thread a little while back about Davenport, which may help you a bit. I'll go searching for it.

If you want to be near bars but also in a nice area, downtown Moline is definitely the place to be. Lots of low income housing but you can find something at market rate (I'm assuming you want an apartment) if you look hard enough. Enterprise lofts have a few market rate units and are very nice. Also some OK places in downtown Davenport but it can get just a little sketchy.

Downtown Davenport has more living options, but Moline has a few. Both cities have been doing a lot of renovations downtown in order to bring more people there, and they both seem to finally be realizing that market rate apartments were needed instead of low income! Downtown Bettendorf is literally nothing outside of a casino, and downtown Rock Island is sketchy, moreso than downtown Davenport but with less living options.

Yup, I had a friend that lived there and she really liked it. Close enough to downtown to walk, but far enough to not be too loud. It's right off the I-74 bridge so I'm not sure if the traffic is a huge problem, but I could see it being pretty annoying when there's a concert down the road at the I Wireless Center. Definitely worth checking out.

IDK what type of bars you are looking for. If you just want to chill downtown Moline is where you want to go. If you are looking to grind and bring home randoms Rock Island is where you want to go. Bettendorf really doesn't have a defined downtown, but if you live near 53rd you will have a lot of restaurant options.

Iowa has a sliding scale, you will probably pay more taxes in Iowa. The property taxes in Iowa are less, but he is looking to rent.

And will only be in existence for a few more years. They're replacing that crapfest of a bridge with an 8 lane bridge.

Land acquisition for the footprint of the new bridge and realigned freeway is already well in process, which is why parts of downtown Bettendorf look like it's been struck by the zombie apocalypse.

The problem with the existing bridges is neither were designed to handle Interstate traffic, as both were built well before Interstates even existed - the north span in the 1930s, the south span in the 1950s.

If that's the one I'm thinking of, I walked across it one time. There's a pedestrian lane off the side. Before the kids, we'd go all over hiking with our dog. He got halfway across that before he got his toenail caught in the grates, and suddenly realized he could see thru the bridge (not sure how he didn't figure that out sooner), so he froze and I had to carry a 60# dog halfway across that f-er. IIRC, we parked by the river bandits stadium, hiked up to that bridge, then back down the IL side and crossed back over on highway 67 right by the ball park.

We stopped at the Blue Cat Brewpub before going home and picked up a growler, so it was worth the dog carrying, I guess.

If you look at the ghost town parts of Bettendorf and Moline have become over the last several years, the parts where the new footprint of this bridge would located, because those properties have been bought out, you would realize this project is happening. Some phases of the project (which actually affects the entire I-74 corridor) have already been completed, such as the reconfiguring of the 53rd Street interchange.

And of course it's been 10-15 years. Projects like this don't happen overnight. It takes years to plan the project get funding, land acquisition, etc. You don't just decide to do a project this big and then suddenly a year later voila! you have a brand new bridge.
