Per Travis Hines....

Williams to finish juco in California this year. Still hasn't scheduled his shoulder surgery yet, but intends on doing that this year and will not play.

Any reason for concern? I think it was originally reported that he would attend a juco in Iowa to finish out.

He probably anticipated the move to Cali and put the surgery off until he got out there. As far as concern of him staying committed, the dude had some good offers and many more were beginning to look his way before he committed. Not even a little worried.

I guess I don't blame the kid for going back closer to home for a year of juco. Hopefully he stays engaged and completes his classwork as expected.

Isn't he from California? If I was gonna have surgery and be out for a year, I wouldn't mind going back home to recoup before going back to Iowa for 3 years.

W/o playing ball this year, I'm not worried about his commitment. I had hoped that he would attend a Juco close to ISU just so he could attend games/interact with the players.

Wasn't he eligible to go to D1 after high school but choose the Juco route to get better offers? If so, why not enroll at ISU this summer and redshirt in Ames? I guess the answer lies in signing against the 2014 recruiting class or the 2015.

Needs to aa first. Also, I remember discussion at the time was around western not wanting to carry a scholarship for a guy who won't play which is apparently fairly common in juco which shocked me.

He doesn't need an AA if he was academically eligible out of high school.

I'm saying he wasn't, I think it was from a cyclone slant podcast but I can't say for sure.

Pretty obvious he wants to stay closer to home for surgery/rehab. You can't blame him for that, and it means nothing to "how committed" he is to ISU

I think his situation was a gamble either way, simply bc of the variables with sitting out, surgery etc but I've seen the kid play several times, its worth the gamble. Where he rehabs isn't a huge deal. It's not like he gained anything from just being a student at Iowa Western, the only reason he'd ever heard of the place is of bball, not surprising he's not sticking around Council Bluffs just to go to school.

I don't know the details but he was eligible to go D1 this season. Had he not been injured, he'd be on the ISU roster now. This whole deal was a pretty classy move by DW.

This is nothing new. The day he committed it was said he'd be heading back to Cali to finish up his AA and have surgery on the shoulder. This had been the plan all along.

I don't know if I'd go that far. Hines wrote an article on it. It seems that him going to school in the Bay area is new news.

It was originally reported that he may stay in Iowa for school.

I feel like any time a recruit relocates a couple thousand miles away, it opens the door slightly that they may not return.
