What if Cyclone Fanatic existed at an earlier time?

What kinds of things would people be posting about if this site was around at a different point in time? I keep thinking about how crazy this site would have been in the mid 90's. I also think the site would have melted down around 2000 with the success of the mens and womens basketball teams and the football team.

First, I'm sure there would be a Mega thread about the hiring of Dan McCarney (former Hawkeye player and long time assistant coach) as our football coach. After 10+ straight years (at the time) of losing to the Hawks, I'm sure many on here would have been very disappointed by this hire because it had a 'if you can't beat them, join them' feel to it.

Second, I would have been very disappointed with the hire of Tim Floyd and watching him bring in a bunch of no name players like:
Willoughby---who was a 6th man at the University of New Orleans and only averaged 4 points/game
Cato---South Alabama transfer who averaged 6 points and 4 rebs a game his freshman year
Kenny Pratt---a 6'3" POWER FORWARD? Juco transfer
Shawn Bankhead---Juco transfer that chose ISU over Idaho State

I remember looking at my roommate's computer in '98 and asking what he was so consumed with on the relatively new fangled interwebz. It was the ISU rivals network site pre-millennium. I thought it was cool but even though I was a big fan I doubted I'd ever get sucked in to message boards like that, fun to read once in a while but never participate…WRONG.

Back in the day (early 1990s), there were the USENET groups ia.sport.college, isu.sport.basketball, and isu.sport.football. Real names were used as well...

I still use one of those, but not for sports. alt.video.laserdisc
makes sense that nerds obsessed with 80s/90s tech still use and 80s/90s web forum

McCarney's head would have been called for. If you want to go way back my guess is a lot of people wouldn't have been happy with Earle Bruce's three straight four win seasons after Johnny Major's success.

The Hornacek game-winning jumper in the NCAA tournament would have brought down the internet with the amount of !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!'s from CF alone.

I can't believe no one has mentioned what would have been the biggest mega thread ever on CF:

Ever the photoshop nerd, I remember opening those suckers back when they hit and pathetically searching for obvious signs they were shopped. Rather pathetic but it was my first instinct.

I may be wrong, but i think id heard those actually hit message boards before they hit main news? It wouldntve taken that long these days, it probably would have blown up on twitter the instant it happened. Eustachy kind of got caught by the start of people starting to have cameras everywhere they went.

Yep - those were all over Clark's site before Witosky got a hold of them.
