So I'm going to the BigXII tourney next week. Were leaving Wednesday night and staying about 15 minutes from power and light.

I'm just interested in hearing from some of you who've been. What are the must do's while there? Obviously I'm going to binge drink and all that (comes with my love for ISU) But looking for maybe certain activities places to eat ect. I'm 23 years old and going with four others who are the same age.

Last time I was in KC was for the FSU game. Hoping for a better outcome. Go state!

Power and Light is fun, especially for the Spirit Rallies. Eat Barbecue; tour the brewery; figure out where are the Cyclone fans go for a beer. Westport and Kellys is good too. Oh, and avoid the lines at the Sprint Center-enter the building on the backside of the building-never a line. (making me sad I am not going this year...)

Went to McFadden's last fall and it was one of the coolest bars I've been to. Just gotta deal with Missurah fans. You of course gotta eat BBQ too.

Food-wise, Gordon Biersch is pretty good, if you're looking to stay close to P&L. Otherwise, no trip to KC is complete without a stop at either Oklahoma Joe's or Jack Stack. Worth the drives out of downtown.

My favorites:

Kelly's in Westport (It's a Cyclone bar, good drink prices, fun environment, great live music)
Arthur Bryant's BBQ (The ghetto one, not the other one)
Boulevard Brewery (arrive early in the morning to get free tour tickets, or you'll miss out for sure)
College Basketball Experience (arrive early so you get the place to yourself - although with the tournament going on, it will probably be packed regardless)
Power and Light (obviously)

Have fun!

The 5k fun run is a blast on Saturday morning to help cure a hangover (with the help of a few bloody mary's) and hang with a bunch of fans from other schools as well.

FSU as in, the Eddie Robinson Classic against Florida State in 2002? We were there too, but didn't see you in the Binge Drinking Section. Of course, you were what, 11 at the time?

Indeed indeed. And believe me, had I been of age I would've nuked my brain. The worst part? We stayed at the Ameristar hotel casino and I couldn't drink or gamble.

My wallet and liver thank me for not being of age.

Edit: but that Ameristar place was pretty neat I thought. Really crowded though.

Burnt ends at Arthur Bryant's. Prepare to stand in line if you go during normal meal hours. Also recommend Boulevard tour if you enjoy craft beer but as suggested go early

If you or the people you're with like art or history there is some pretty good stuff around KC in that realm.
Nelson-Atkins Museum
Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art
Thomas Hart Benton's house & studio
Airline History Museum has some fairly unique aircraft
WWI museum if you like military stuff.
Steamboat Arabia Museum is one of the more unique and impressive museums, IMO--steamboat that sank in the Missouri River in 1850's that was found, dug up and cargo salvaged ~25 years ago.
Truman Library in Independence is good also (I went largely to see the big Thomas Hart Benton mural, but found the museum itself really interesting).

Comedian Jim Jeffries is at the Midland Theater on 3/15. He is hilarious if you aren't easily offended. Check out his specials on Netflix.

I lived in KC for 3 years. There isn't much to do besides shop at the plaza, drink at PnL/Westport/Martini Corner, and eat. You have to check out the beer selection at Flying Saucer in PnL. In your downtime you could catch a movie at Alamo Draft House, Tivoli, or Screenland. There is also pretty good mountain biking and disc golfing in the area but it's probably the wrong season for those activities.

Power and Light is all you need to know. Kelly's if there is time. I concur with McFaddens being pretty cool.

I was recently told by a KC resident that PnL is full of douchebags and frat guys and westport is full of hipsters, so pick your poison:smile:.

I have enjoyed power and light a few times, most recently ate at Gordon Biersch as previously recommended. Heading down this summer, planning to do Boulevard tour for sure!

Have a couple drinks and walk from Power & Light to Crown Center later in the evening. It might be cold with the sun down, so make a few stops along the way to warm up.

Here's a good spot:

Another option once you're back on the road and need another stop.
