i know lunardi finally has them out of the dance, but still. one of the announcers during a halftime report said something like "forget their big 12 record they will be in the tourney because of big wins". not an exact quote but something to that effect.

really? who? they are 2-5 against the top 25. they beat memphis at home and beat colorado at home who is no longer ranked. only 1 of those five losses was smartless.

5 losses to unranked teams

they are in sole possession of 8th place in the big 12 and lost to the 9th place team.

if they win the games they are supposed to and lose the games they are supposed to they will end up 2-2 down the stretch. 19-12 overall 7-11 big 12.

until they prove it, they shouldn't even be in the conversation. unless they beat ku at home (possible) i think they have to be out of the tourney right? even if they go 3-1 down the stretch they still have a weak resume.

Agreed, media wants the story lines with that team in the tourney though. Not to mention they are a very good team when clicking. Body of work should not get them in.

Personally I think OK State is still a really dangerous team and worthy of being in the tournament if they get to even 19 wins...Baylor is not going to do anything in the tournament should they get in.

I feel about the same going into our game @Baylor as I do about OK State at home. Smart looked like the lottery pick hype Smart yesterday.

That's just my gut how I feel though and I know the selection committee will look at it in a more rational way.

They lost enough players over the course of the season to be a good NIT team. They can play in Madison Square Garden for the media.

During a halftime report and they were showing the replays of the Okie St game, they noted that the last team to get in the NCAA Tournament after a 7 game losing was Iowa State in I think '88.

They have a decent chance at ending up 8-10 or 9-9. Had Smart not been suspended, they would likely have ended up 10-8 or 11-7. If they make it in, with a Brown, Nash, Forte, and a rested Smart, they have what you need to make a run in the tournament.

I think what keeps them in it are the Neutral site games. They played a ton. They didn't beat anybody real exciting, but for a resume base, the beat La tech on a neutral court, they beat texas at home, and did at least one thing we couldn't in beating WV at their house. Actually Colorado was considered a Neutral site game. That win was a pretty big one. South Fla on the road and Perdue Neutral are not "good" wins per se, but they are solid wins that are worth looking at for a resume base. I look at them on a resume front a little like we've been sitting on the bubble in the recent past. They have a gap in their scheduleing. proving they are top 30-50 there isn't a ton of support either way. The committee will give them the nod if they are able to show something in that range.

TT is their only "bad Loss" They have more good wins than Bad losses and that says a little. There there as a "prove it" Team. They'll get that chance in the next 4.

In 2005, Iowa State lost a bunch of games in a row before rattling off 8 or 9 wins in a row. The worst was completely god awful performance at home against Colorado. To this day, that loss was worse than any home loss in the McDermott era.

I believe that Hoiberg's senior season they also had a bit of a losing streak going at some point late in the season.

OSU will be on a 4 game winning streak when they come to Hilton, IMO. That will be a scary game for ISU.

Re: why does OSU still get to much love as bubble team?

Because in both CFB and cbb analysts decide who they like on paper before anyone even plays a game and their own confirmation bias keeps them from reassessing events as they occur. They tell themselves "These guys are too good to not get it clicking eventually," or, "These guys had no stars or offers, they won't be there at the end."

If you believe in the averages, they're probably right most of the time with that thinking but they make some pretty high profile whiffs too.

Re: why does OSU still get to much love as bubble team?

It's because fans always overrate the strength of the bubble. The bubble teams and resumes are horrible.

Prime example are those that think Iowa is/could be on the bubble or out. Really? Their resume may be lacking strength at the top, but please, you think there are 48 better resumes?

Check out the bubble sometime. Or read up on the mock selection the media went through. Everyone came out talking about how much of a struggle it was to come up with enough teams to fill the bracket.

The bubble is pillow soft, and Ok St still has very comparable numbers to the last couple in...

They still have the potential to make it based on their upcoming schedule. If they had a Big10 cupcake city type schedule, then I don't think they'd have a chance. Tournament selected today, I don't see them in.

Why does it bother you? It's a Big 12 team. I want them in the Big dance. I want as many Big 12 teams in the tournament as possible.

They almost beat us and they almost beat Kansas. With Smart on the floor I really think they can beat anybody in the country on the right night.

I absolutely think they are a bubble team.

Lunardi's last 3 in and Oklahoma State. Which three do you take?
Pretty tough to not be "on the bubble" this year.

(I think those vs. 150's are supposed to be 11-1, 10-1, 11-1? (instead of 10)?

Those resumes are similar (just like bubble teams usually are). Team A is as good as any (despite its unimpressive RPI number).

I won't reveal the identities of other 3, so I don't skew the opinions.

No they are correct. It's their records against all top-150 RPI teams, so 11-10, 10-10 and 11-10 are correct.

It's the universal respect for their coaching.
