Dahl's in trouble?

I plan around Fareway being closed on Sunday and respect them for it. I am old enough that I remember as a child that Sunday was always family day. No one worked and we spent the day together, went to church, had a big Sunday dinner, maybe went fishing or visited relatives. Seems like my own kids Sundays were always crammed with soccer, baseball, or something. I am sure it loses them money but they obviously put some things above money.

The difference between any grocery store is pretty negligible anyways.

I couldn't tell you the difference between H.E.B. Tom Thumb or Hyvee.

I still feel guilty when I mow my lawn on Sundays. That was a big no no when I was growing up.

I've been going to the Dahls in Ames the last 3 years. I have zero complaints. Certainly isn't crowded, but as a shopper, how is that a negative?

You have been overpaying for 3 years.

I don't want to see anyone lose their job but Dahl's isn't competitive at all.

The Dahls in Ankeny is a nice store actually. And being able to push a cart through aisles without annoying shoppers is a good thing. HATE HyVee, in Ankeny at least. People everywhere. Store is huge. Can't get through the aisles. Have to take a break from walking because it is so far back in the store just to get a gallon of milk. And Fareway? A vending machine has more selection than them.

Same with the the Dahl's in Johnston on 86th. Would much rather go there than the HyVee in Johnston on Merle Hay as that place seems to always be a zoo.

Compared with what? I suppose it's probably cheaper than buying stuff at the gas station next door.

I've shopped at Walmart, east and west hyvee, and aldees (though this doesn't compare). Some items are more expensive, some are cheaper. Pretty much a wash (of course walmart is the cheapest but that is well out of my way).

I think Hy-Vee and Dahl's would be close, but Aldi (although I agree it's a different animal) is muuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuch cheaper, Walmart and Fareway would be next and more similar, distantly followed by Hy-vee and Dahl's.

Me too. Some times it is the only option with rain and stuff. But my dad always found a way around mowing on Sunday (might have been the forced child labor:biggrin:. )

I worked at dahls many moons ago, the meat dept was the only good thing about the store. I shop at Fareway n Target, people say target is expensive, but with 5% off redcard and even more with cartwheel its worth not going to walmart.

That's about how I would see it.

I'm a Hy-Vee guy myself. I pretty much only shop at the one in Urbandale on 86th. I'm interested in checking out both Fareway and Aldi's because I've never shopped at either.

Not surprised about Dahl's though. The DSM market is already oversaturated with grocers and they don't have much of a niche.

Way to expensive means no customers. Ankeny one is closing soon. They make HyVee prices seem like Aldis. I only shop at Fareway.
