Any shed hunters on here? Have you seen most drop yet? I want to go look but dont want to bump them out of place. I would ask on the iowa deer site but I dont remember my login.

I had a group of 4 deer cross the road in front of me on my way home from work last night. 3 of them were 6-8 point bucks, two of which had shed half their antlers. Almost parked the car on side of the road and went looking.

I would say a majority have dropped or will drop within the next week or two. The bigger problem in most areas is snow cover. I usually wait to look until the snow has mostly melted off.

Snow is going to make it tough. I looked a bit last weekend and didn't find any. Checked all of the trail cameras and I would say 1/3rd had fallen as of last weekend. That is just a guess for South Central Iowa where my farm is. I would check trails and food sources if you want to get out. Save the prime bedding areas for a few more weeks.

So you figured out they aren't talking about looking for rusted out shacks in peoples backyards?:pwink:

I thought they were hunting by waiting in a shed somewhere until a deer came by... Figured the dog liked it cuz it was warm... No lie. Figured it out a little later in the thread. Who knew.

I'm sure there are some out there -- hopefully this snow takes a big hit this weekend.

By the hoof prints in the snow, I think my deer must have had a shedding party. Hopefully the sheds are not in the field. Sheds and tractor tires not a good combination.

Shed hunting is where you spot a nice shed or barn and shoot it. If you are a bad shot, they say you couldn't hit the broad side of a barn.

but why would you shoot the shed? you could just enjoy it and let it be on its way. Whats with you people and shooting everything.

But seriously an update, went out at lunch spotted 4 bucks all holding both sides.

Sometimes if your real lucky.... when it's freezing cold.... in the middle of winter..... you can catch yourself a whole group of them sheds out in the open on a frozen lake. That makes for a great day of shed huntin! Defintely better than finding them one at a time in backyards and alleys.
