My chiropractor believes i got it in my deltoid (just below the shoulder/side of arm).

From what I know, its something you just have to wait out, but this thing already has 5 weeks on me. Anyone have any suggestions to help this heal up. I really would like to be at the gym this time of year lifting about every other day and thats not happening right now.

im off to google this a bit and see what the internets can tell me.

Sounds like you have impingement, a very common baseball, volleyball, swimming injury. Rest is really the only thing you can do to help, but another suggestion would be to build the small muscles around the area with resistance bands. You can also massage the area really well by putting your hand behind your back, moving the hand up as much as you can and have someone rub under the shoulder blade...

I have tendonitis in my knees, and it sucks balls. IMO, the only real cure is waiting it out. Sorry.

Back in my playing days, a doctor told me that for patellar tendonitis (in the knees) would be cured by a heavy dose of ibuprofen (anti-inflamatory) and building flexibility in the hamstrings. Lo and behold I played my senior year pain free (in the knees at least).
As for general tendonitis, if you know a vet (who at ISU doesn't) DMSO will clear it right up. I'd be curious to get ajk4s8's thoughts on that.

I'd check out WebMD. I get it every so often in my left Achilles. I usually treat it like a sprain and that seems to be pretty effective. But I've never had tendinitis last for weeks at a time, though...

DMSO quite possibly works very well. Too many side effects have led the FDA to not allow it (one was blindness caused in rats)

DMSO is also a powerful solvent.

Cortisone is generally effective enough with shoulder inflammitory issues.

Potent stuff.

I played baseball so I had that early on in the spring season a few times, sucks a lot! Unfortunately I must concur with the consensus, you need to rest it and wait it out.

If it is true subacromial impingement (rotator cuff getting pinched causing significant pain and often inflammation).

Most exercise can be continued avoiding overhead presses and bench press.

I have patellar tendonitis as well. Well I was told that in HS and College. I am now 3 years removed from college. A doctor recently looked at my knee and did some movement tests on it. Come to find out I have torn cartilage. Dr. said I need to have arthroscopic surgery. I have been putting it off for like a year. Anyone have any experience with arthroscopic surgery?

Don't go for the cortisone unless absolutely necessary. Cortisone will break down the area over time so other means of healing are much better:

Ice
Anti-Inflammatory's
Rest

If you want an over the counter supplement to try. Check out Cissus. Some people swear by it.

I had terrible shoulder problems that were diagnosed as tendonitis back in October. I am big into working out so it was difficult to do without pain. I finally decided I needed to not to anything that caused the shoulder to hurt with my workouts. It has been about 4 months and although I am not at 100%, I am probably around 90% and most of the pain is gone.

My cousin had impingements in both shoulders and had surgery on both. Pretty much takes you out for 4-6 months if you do this.

Bottom line is no one can diagnose your issue (tendonitis, impingement, rotator cuff issues, etc.) without having a MRI done. It is just guesswork without an MRI.

I have elbow tendonitis which I developed playing tennis....or as they call it in that sport, "tennis elbow". I have never had an mri done, but with a brief description this is what a friend in the medical field tells me. Rest and "little muscle" exercises are the two things I've always been told to do.

I wouldn't ever trust a dignosis from a Chiropractor. Get a second opinion by a real doctor (orthopedic) to get an acurate diagnosis. If it is your rotator cuff you could be doing further harm. Find a good physical therapist instead of a Chiroprator.

Had my knee scoped in Oct '06 after putting it off for a number of years. If it's just cartilage, get it done ASAP. I waited so long that a large chunk became lodged in the joint so I could barely bend my knee. It was extremely painful. Recovery time is usually pretty short, so there's really no reason to put it off. That's just my opinion.
