Iowa makes it big on new list, ranking as 12th-fattest state

Since ISU has been ranked one of the fittest schools in the country, we an only assume its those people over in Iowa City causing us all these problems.
you've seen this pic before but according to their scale i am 3 pounds from "overweight". i have a little skinny fat on me but I'm not that close to overweight.
But this is the obesity rate, which if I recall, is something like 30 pounds or more.
i know, but there is a huge percentage of us that are overweight, too. i think part of it is when everyone looks fat our perception of reality changes so that overweight becomes "normal", normal = skinny. and so fat people don't look fat. The reason I posted that picture of me is because I doubt there would be one person on CF who thinks I'm 1.7% away from being overweight. I'm not sure if I don';t understand my own reality or the scale system is messed up - I am definitely in much better shape than most people I know and I'm not even that healthy.
At work I'd say 80% of clients are overweight and then most of the women at my office are overweight as well (but..Zumba!). There is constant talk of healthy living but no action. Fitness is not an area where the thought counts.

BMI sucks for individuals but when looking at a whole population it does a decent job.

For me BMI is a joke. I am classified as almost obese even though most look at me and say but you aren't even really over weight. Those of us with bigger builds (wide shoulders, thick chests, etc) laugh at our BMI categorization. According to BMI my ideal weight is 30 pounds lighter than when I got married and I was at my skinniest as an adult then. My ideal weight according to BMI truly is not attainable for me.
I was actually underweight/close to being underweight for most of HS. Senior year I bulked up a lot, well into the healthy range, and since then I've mostly been maintaining through 3 years of college.

I take this as good news that Rhoads is able to recruit Big 12 sized linemen from out of state in large enough numbers to skew this statistic.
