There are some pretty awesome looking clouds around Ames right now. How have the storms been for the fanatics up north of Ames?

It was just a lot of downpours and lightning up here. Lasted about 45 minutes, and there were threats of quarter sized hail, but the hail didn't appear.

I work in Roland and everything looked perfectly clear when I left at 5. Coming down now in Ames. Winds picking up and lightning as well

Funnel cloud sighted NW of Forest City about 3pm. Good thing golf course is SE part of town. Light rain around 4pm. Belmond had Ping-Pong sized hail, if I remember the NWS storm reports right.

First time rain has ever come inside my screen, and I've had some pretty good rainstorms not go through the screen.

Just looked at the radar, storm system developed probably about 10 miles southeast of Carroll. Looks like no rain again for us.

I really feel for the people that are missing this. Could make a huge yield difference for the crops.

The crops around here are on the verge of disaster. Soybeans are still holding on but they are very, very short and will be setting pods very close to the ground which will make harvest really hard. The corn looks worse every day and in some places is starting to die.

Sounds just like around the Ames area. Hopefully Western Iowa can get something Thursday when our next best chance of rain is.

Not sure where you are located, but verge of disaster is a bit of an exaggeration. Last year at this time corn was dead halfway up the stalk and still yielded 110-145. Corn is still solid green, rain in the forecast, and temps during pollination in the low 80s. Could be much worse.

I don't know that I've heard a summer since I was old enough to care where farmers didn't make it sound doom and gloom.
