I've owned 15+ vehicles in my life but I've never owned a truck so I've recently been checking them out but I have one question. I was looking at a Dodge and it was 229". This seems to be about a foot longer then my actual garage.

I had never noticed this before but while driving through my neighborhood this morning I noticed a lot of trucks in the driveway. I have a 3 car garage so I know that I could make it fit but don't want to go though the hassle. Is it normal that my garage isn't long enough to actually fit a modern truck?

If you drive around some neighborhoods in small towns with older houses, you'll notice several garages with "bumpouts" on the walls opposite the garage door(s). I guess the earliest garages were built for horse carriages, Model As and Model Ts. Then as cars became longer people needed more room. My grandparents had a garage like this. Not on topic, just something I learned working my summer construction job in HS and college.

My house was built in 2005. It is a side-load garage if that makes a difference.

Don't just worry about your length. Check you height also, I'm not sure how tall those new dodges are, but the Ford Exhibitions are 6'8" tall I believe. Most standard garage doors are 7' tall, if your door doesn't go up all the way, you could also have issues there.

I've done a lot of construction and I've have never seen a garage less than 20' deep be build.

Mine is 20' deep. I don't think with the garage door it would fit. Probably just means I shouldn't buy a truck. I sure wouldn't leave it outside.

It annoys me to see people with 3 car garages, own 2 cars, but still always leave a car outside.

I have a Ram 1500 and I can fit it in a 20' garage. The garage door usually only takes a few inches out.

Maybe it would fit, I'll have to re-measure. I think the my garage door takes up at least 5 inches. Regardless it would be VERY close.

I bet it would be a tightish squeeze, but it seems like it would fit. Maybe if you pull in and then angle slightly.

My house is 10 years old, my 4 door truck fits in with a couple inches in the back, and about two feet in the front.
I usually let it sit outside in the summer, since I'm doing projects in there, but in the winter it goes inside.

This helped with me parking it in the garage at the perfect spot. It's very handy:

I just hang a tennis ball from the ceiling when it hits the windshield you stop.
