Pop Songs about Iowa/Iowa Towns

I collect local/regional releases, mostly pre 1970. Even at that I find very few local references.

That being said, I do have one called "Getting Out of Muscatine." It's very much on the order of a Johnny Cash song. Mentions several local companies. I think this is the first time I've tried to find something on You Tube to link here that WASN'T there. I'm sure it was a very small local private pressing. This was particularly satisfying to find and hear since I myself got out of Muscatine.

(Edit: I happened to think I also have a song by the Baroques, a 60's band out of Wisconsin, I believe. They had a single release on Chess/Checker - pretty much a major label - called "Iowa - A Girl's Name" which isn't about the state of Iowa, but a girl named Iowa if I remember correctly.)

How did I not know that CW MCCall was from Iowa? I grew up him that courtesy of dad. To this day, still enjoy the occasional listen. Kids know a couple songs even. We were in Colorado on vacation, and imagine their surprise when they discovered Wolf Creek Pass is an actual place!

“Iowa City, Make Love To Meâ€￾ by Pete Balestrieri can't befound on Youtube and must have a pretty intereting lyrical score probably something like: “Iowa City, Make Love To me and conceive our mutant love child."

What is odd about this song is that it has an Ames connection.

I can only imagine. Ames gets ****ed over by Iowa City, right?

Thanks IAStubborn, that I have not heard before.

From the rosy pink Sioux Quartzite outcrops of Lyon Co. to the Sycamores where Parula Warblers sing down in Lee Co., I am an Iowan. From the limestone bluffs up in Allamakee Co.'s Mississippi bend to Earl May's in Shenandoah and all the corn in between, thanks with damp eyes and a kindred heart.
