Officers said they will be looking specifically for drivers who are operating under the influence of alcohol.

Officers will also be watching for seat belt violations and drivers who are exceeding the speed limit.

So, are they not looking for those things, normally?

They probably announce it under the theory that while they could catch more (and probably will) for every one they catch they also hope that it changes behavior before it happens- theyd rather the drunk driving not occur at all.
