Tom Kakert just predicted IOwa winning 24-14.

I'm getting used to ISU being the underdogs and could kinda understand if he predicted a 24-21 score or something like that, but after last weeks performances I see it being a much closer game

If ISU misses field goals or doesn't move the chains, it could be one of those games ISU just can't get over the hump.

If ISU plays their normal game---they win.

Over confident? I didn't even say ISU would win...I just said it should be a closer game than that predicted score. I'm never over confident when it comes to ISU football. I was very nervous before the game last week and am moreso for this game. Should be a good game unless one of the teams makes huge mistakes

Seriously? Your panties are bunched up over a Hawkeye picking Iowa to win a game they are favored in? Someone is a little too sensitive.

Eh. . . 10pts either way wouldn't be terribly surprising to anyone, I'd think. Most fans are picking their team in a close contest.

This is the second game of the season, how much do we really know? We've seen all kinds of bizarre performances in openers with all kinds of different outcomes in the ensuing iowa-ISU matchup.

Iowa is tough to know right now... with two new coordinators, a handful of new assistants, and some fresh faces on both lines.

Not too much would surprise me tomorrow.

Iowa has a worse defense than last year and no receivers that can get open. That's not because of NIU returning 45 starters from last year. We have more speed. Jantz is comfortable. We will run the ball. Knott and Klein make an impact. We win. And look, I lived through the thrashings in the 90's et al. This is a different team and it feels different. I just hope our kicking game is solid.

I've seen fans predicting 14+ wins for ISU on here, yet an Iowa "journalist" predicting Iowa to win by 10 in a game they're favored by in 4 is shocking I agree.

You guys are wayyyyy over confident

Why? The only thing on Iowa's side in this matchup on paper is that it's at Kinnick. Kinnick is a huge advantage and games aren't played on paper, but it's not out of line to think we're going to win.

We should be confident. We have the better team and coaching staff. Cyclones by a touchdown.

Why would Iowa be expected to have a "worse" defense this year?

Return the core of our back seven -- many achieving upperclassmen status now -- and against return marginal experience on the DL. The back seven will very likely be better -- especially so compared to what you guys saw from us last season in Ames... when we still hadn't settled on personnel.

The DL is the question mark. They played mediocre in the first half against NIU, much better in the second. Tough to say. Against you guys last year our DL played terrible. Hopefully we're further along this year. If we are, I'll bet that the defense is ahead of where it was last year at this time.

Don't get the speed comment. Two areas we could improve speed wise are: speed rushing DE, and higher end speed guy starting at WR. But aside from that...have TEs who can really move, LBs as quick as we've had them, and CBs who are fine manning up outside. RB is definitely quicker than last year as well.

At any rate, though, I don't think there is some big speed discrepancy that will be a large determining factor.

You're a more known quantity at this point. So I can see some confidence from that... but depending on what team emerges from Iowa, hard to say you've got all the matchup advantages.

I agree, I think it is a given that the basketball team will win 14+ games. Also, Iowa will not win by 10 in Carver.

It doesn't make sense, but the fan overconfidence for this game really makes me feel like we are setting up for a loss.

Iowa doesn't rebuild, they reload, right?

On defense that's almost been the case over the years. (look at the numbers on defense)

Not so on offense.

Last year we fell off the edge a bit defensively due to massive graduation. (as well as attrition at the DL spot that left us with less than spectacular replacements)

Again this season we're an inexperienced DL... i'm not expecting them to be a very good unit, but if they can achieve the level of "decent" then we could have a good unit. (if the LBers and DBs continue to progress as we hope they might)

They're the X factor on our defense. Will be interesting to see where they're at tomorrow.
