I watched it live... but NBC needs the premier event of the olympics to be in prime time.
On that note is anybody else watching the beach volleyball game between Germany and Brazil? The two German women are both absolute smokeshows.
You should head over there. Most of those girls would be considered "average" in that country. I remember when I stepped on my flight. There were so many beautiful women (including the flight attendants) on it, it wasn't even funny. On a side note, a flight attendant I had from Istanbul-Chicago looked a lot like the best player for Turkey and was tall. HMMM
At first I was going to remark at being surprised the Turks would allow their women to dress like that (being a Muslim nation and all), then I remembered Turkey is more of a secularized nation that treats its Islam much like America treats its Christianity.
Yeah, exactly. Last I was there, call to prayer 5 times a day. I was outside for 4 of those and never once did I see anybody do **** about it. Business resumed as if nothing was happening, although I had a waiter once during the midday CTP that left for about 15 minutes quietly, replaced by another waiter. Most women didn't wear burkas (head scarves) there, although some do. You have it exactly right though. People there treat their Islam like many here treat Christianity here. It's more of a "yeah, I go to church sometimes" for a lot of people, and then there are those who are religious.
Turkey has always been a very accepting country though. The Ottoman Empire pretty much assimilated everything it came into contact with and learned from it. When the jews were expelled from Spain/Portugal in 1492, Ottoman Empire was the ones who accepted them. There's still thousands that live there today peacefully. Homosexuality has also been legal there since the late 1800s. Fairly forward thinking over there.
Not to mention, the coast has some amazing beaches there

I honestly hope Istanbul (not Constantinople) gets the 2020 Olympics.
Same here. The city is amazing. Tokyo has already had the Olympics, so I'm not sure if that helps or hurts their chances. I know Tokyo is like the "ultimate" city right now, but it's a lot more crowded now than it was back in 1964. Istanbul is huge now too, unofficially somewhere between 13 and 20 million.
They already built an Olympic stadium (Ataturk) there for their failed 2008 bid. There's 4 stadiums there alone with over 30,000 seat capacity (3 of those are actually over 50k capacity) and another 2 with around 15k capacity. They have an arena that can fit over 20k people for basketball, and another one over 12k. They have the Bosphorous and Marmara for all the water stuff (i.e. sailing). Their public transit system probably has more work to do, but it was surprisingly modern and smooth.

So has Madrid (and Barcelona had it recently as well). Part of the appeal for Istanbul IMO.
Yeah, too bad we have to wait a year. It would be really cool if they got it though. I'd probably try and go to some stuff, but hopefully by then, some of the shady dudes over there settle down. I'm not a fan of the "Lira switch" in the cabs there or trying to charge $4 for bread at a meal.
