Pop obviously because I'm from Iowa, but like Clones21 I don't drink it anymore either.

used to say pop growing up in Iowa, but have said soda ever since moving to KC in 1999. soda stayed with me everywhere else I have lived (Indiana, St. Louis). I think pop is very much a northern term.

Anyone have an example of "other"?

Also, I lived in Houston for a time and I never heard anyone generically refer to soda as "coke".

I think that's more of a Mississippi/Alabama/Georgia thing, that area anyways. I suppose "cola" could be an other.

Before moving to Maryland in 2006 it was 100% pop for me. When I lived in Maryland from 2006-2008 started as pop then eventually turned into soda. Now that I have moved back to Nebraska I say both. I also have an aunt that lives in Dallas and they say "coke" quite often.

You must not have been in the right parts of Houston.

I say all 3. Although when I do refer to pop as "Coke", it's almost always by accident after somebody has already referenced them as such.

Same here, but I want to punch those that say coke when it is not a coca cola.[/QUOTE]

Same here. For some reason that bugs the **** out of me when people say coke when its not even Coca Cola. How the hell could you call Sprite or Mountain Dew, Coke?!?!

Why would we engage in a nationwide debate over all that flowery language, when all you need is just two simple words:

"Pibb me."
