Back-to-Back 2,000 Yard Rushing Seasons and no Heisman Trophy. Only player in College Football history to ever do it. Such a shame. Too bad the team was horrible back then. Can you imagine how many yards he would have if Jim Walden actually liked him?

Don't forget Darren, at the time only two backs with 2000 yd seasons and no Heisman. Rashaan Salaam did it like 2 years before and according to the media 2000 yds was the litmus test of automatic Heisman. I think it was RS, I know it was a Colorado back though.

Darren was good, but nowhere close to being as good as Troy. Of the 14 times a player has rushed for 2,000 yards in a season, they've only one the Heisman five times.

Oh hell, I agree Troy was better. I just remember a day when 2000 yds was the litmus test & at one time we had the only two 2000 yd seasons with no Heisman. I guess our team sucking so bad changed the way the award was given.

Jesus Im an idiot, Darren never sniffed 2000. My memory sucks these days

one time we had the only three 2000 yd seasons with no Heisman.

Darren never topped 1,400 in a year.

And the only guy to win the Heisman on a losing team was Paul Hornung. Had ISU finished 7-4 in 1996 (which was entirely possible) instead of 2-9, Troy might have won.

Man, what a burst out the backfield he had.

302 yards in 2 1/2 quarters against UNLV. Man, he could have had the record most most rushing yards in a college football game.

‪FB: Troy Davis Promo (1995)‬‏ - YouTube

Here's a fun little video.

If you aren't subscribed to ‪cycloneclassics's Channel‬‏ - YouTube, I highly recommend you do.
I was lucky enough to be on the sidelines when the Cyclones (with Troy) played Baylor at Baylor (don't remember the year or if it was before the big xii) -- do remember we lost -- anyway Troy ran all over them of course but in the second half one of our LB or D-backs got hurt and Troy begged coach to let him go in to take our players place because "He wanted to knock that M-Fer out." I'll never forget it.
