Sounds like, by that logic, it does not apply to the Cubs fans.

Well to some cub fans. I'm a Cub fan because Chicago was the closest town with a baseball team to where I grew up, and they were on local TV (WGN).

I have no idea why the rest of the Cub fan world are Cub fans. That's a lot of grief for anyone to go through.

You are kidding me right? Then how does one become a legitimate fan? Only like a team that $ucks? Hope they get good?

Also...I had to sit and cheer for the Steelers through the Bubby Brister years...that alone makes me a legitimate fan!

I kind of agree with the above posters. If you don't have a regional connection to the team and you just like them because they were good at one time that is bandwagon no matter how long you have followed them since. At least say you liked them because your favorite ISU player was on the team or something...it just doesn't make any since why you would feel so strong for say pittsburgh...have you been there?

Nope...been to Pittsburgh but not a game in Pittsburgh...seen the Steelers play 5 times though...just loved them for as long as I can remember! See my other post about a bandwagon fan being someone who jumps OFF the bangwagon when things are going bad! Someone who jumps on the bandwagon when things are good and remains a fan even during lean years is not a bandwagon fan.

I would NOT describe someone who started to cheer for the Celtics (not me, I hate the NBA) during the Larry Bird years and is still a Celtics fan as being a "bandwagon" fan.

I guess we have different opinions as to what a "bandwagon fan" really is? Certainly not the biggest concerns in our lives...

Yes, disagree...I think it has to do with some sort of regional context. Anyway, Springsteen rules!

I'm a lifelong ISU fan with an undergraduate degree from UNI. I find this whole thread pretty insulting. I know many ISU fans who also root for UNI. What is wrong with that? When I went to school there I knew many students who rooted for ISU. I just don't understand the hate for UNI. It makes people look small and petty in my opinion. I'm not saying you have to root for them but come on ....get over yourself.:realmad:

I think I have to have cyfanatic's back on this one. It's o.k. when you hop on a bandwagon and then continue to faithfully follow that team even if your initial action was bandwagoning because they were good. I think what some people get annoyed with is during years where you had say, Brister at qb, then all the Steelers fans hide in their closets until they get good again. I'm sure you probably supported Pittsburgh throughout their rough years but with bandwagon teams, a lot of times people go into hiding until they're good again. A good example was the St. Louis Rams a few years back. You couldn't get out of the bandwagoning mess around Iowa when they were good but now where are their fans at?

Nice mention on the St. Louis Rams...ouch! We have a pool where you have to pick 7 teams from various categories (2 from the top 8 records of last year, 3 from the middle 16 records of last year, 2 from the worst 8 records of of last year). Then at the end of the season we add up the total victories of the 7 teams we picked...well...for some reason I picked the Rams! NOT GOOD! Killing me! I never liked the Rams...now I hate them!
