Our best DL recruits in the last 6 classes were Ahtyba Rubin (high 3-star Juco) back in 2006 and Chris Lyle (high 3-star Juco) back in 2007. Since then:
2008: Cleyon Laing (2-star), Roosevelt Maggitt (2-star), Jake McDonough (3-star) and S. Ruempolhamer (2-star).
2009: Walter Woods (2-star), Aaron Moore (3-star), Jacob Lattimer (3-star)
2010: Brandon Jensen (2-star), Nick Kron (2-star), Rony Nelson (3-star)
2011: David Irving (2-star), Devin Lemke (3-star)
The coaches have done an amazing job working with the talent they have. But at some point our lack of defensive tackles is going to catch up with us. Or am I just being a negative nelly?
Take a look at Oklahoma's roster. They go 5-deep at the DE position and 4-deep at the DT position. Why not come to ISU and play right away? Become the next Tuba Rubin!!

some guys like winning national championships. plus, their told they will come in and start or at least play.... for sure by the time they're a jr or sr
Didn't someone in the recruiting business say that there really wasn't going to be many DL recruits available for anyone but the top schools, so coaches were going to HAVE to develop talent?

Getting Green and Filimoeatu would be big for DL depth. At DE we would have Lattimer, Maggitt, Neal, Nelson, and Filimoeatu. At DT we would have Ruemp, McDonough, Laing, and Green. That's nine guys, which isn't even counting guys like Woods, Moore, Scott, Jensen, and Krick, all of whom are underclassmen who could earn some playing time.
Defense wins championships and I have more faith that Wally can get more out of guys than I do Herman. Look what Wally has done with a lack of resources.
I don't get how Rival does these National ranking, for one, Boise St. is rated 50th with a 2.48 average, we are not in the top 50 but have a 2.69 rating and more 3 star recruits, makes no sense. Than if you look at the per position break down, in almost every category we are in the top 30 and yet we are not even in the top 50. I think if we land one of our DT blue chippers we will improve vastly.

I do not know my self, but some 3 star recruits are worth more points than others. For example, when Nealy committed to ISU, the team points i think almost doubled. That happened because he was a highly rated 3 star recruit (5.7 Rivals Rating). We have a lot of Recruits who are rated at 5.5, which is a 3 star, but a 5.4 or lower is a 2 star. A 5.8 rating is a four star. Even though we have a higher average, Boise State probably has more talented 3 star recruits than us in the eyes of Rivals.
This is likely right. I believe they rank by total points but I'm not sure. We have quite a few 5.5 guys.
We are ranked at 54th in the country right now.
I don't really understand how they get the points. When Jantz got upgraded to a 5.6 3 star we scored like 115 points. When Nealy, a 5.7 3 star, committed we got around 100. But with Bundrage who is also a 5.6 3 star, we only got 17 points.
I've also heard that rivals is gonna update some 5/4 star recruits this week. Any chance Nealy gets a lil bump?

You get bonus points for players being ranked above a certain level at their position, even more if they're in the top five at their position, plus extra points for being ranked nationally in the high school or JUCO rankings. Here's what I found about the formula:

Please note you only take the top 20 prospects in this formula, ordered by # Stars descending.

H = 250 for each 5-star commit + 140 for each 4-star + 75 for each 3-star + 20 for each 2-star + 10 for each 1-star
L = 18 for each 5-star + 12 for each 4-star + 8 for each 3-star + 3 for each 2-star + 1 for each 1-star
N = a big honkin' calculation, described below

I think that a Nealy up to 4 and a couple 5.4 2 star guys to 5.5 would greatly help.
It is interesting to note that dline tackle and wide receiver start at 50, the most number of points.
So basically if you need to recruit 1 position more heavily than others it will determine your fate. Need a couple of extra running backs this year = top 25 recruiting class
Need to restock the Guard and center position possibly fall out of top 50 in recruiting
