BTW - why are you here? Shouldn't you be over on the rivalry board?

And as for what I am doing here...I grew up in Iowa City rooting for the Hawks and the Cyclones as long as they weren't playing the Hawks.

I live and work in Ames now and am a season ticket holder for football, mens basketball, and women's basketball so enjoy reading about and discussing the Cyclones when I can.

By diving head first at the bait Legend12 threw out there you are helping create this as an issue for CPR and the athletic department, even if they have done nothing wrong.

I would suggest you re-read the thread. Heck, even read it aloud if it helps you follow along.

You do realize...

I don't know if he knows, and doubt that he cares, but there was a discussion about what I posted between an immediate family member of his and an immediate family member of mine.

I respect what Coach Ferentz does as a coach and by and large he has made great choices when faced with tough situations, but in the situation we are discussing I absolutely feel like he made the wrong decision to attend that meeting.

that Ferentz specifically asked that he not attend that meeting before it took place. Both he and Barta did not think it was right/appropriate for them to be included in that meeting, for the same reasons as have been discussed here. The only person the coach should be dealing with is the player, and how the player's transgressions should relate to his status on the team. Anything with the victim should be handled by the people whose job it is to look out for the interest of the victim.

If they both thought that then there should have been no harm in them not showing up. Ferentz should have been able to keep his job because Barta would have agreed with him not being there and Barta himself would not have been there. The only reason they would have been there, according to your reasoning is because they thought they could get something out of it which is wrong and the whole point.

Apparently the investigation involves illegal use of somebody else's credit card. Search warrant executed and some items sought were found. I must admit, it's early, but does not look good at this point.

Foop!

If they are trying to somehow smooth things over - that's a bad, bad idea.

That's what happened with Jason Berryman when he punched out the window of the car.

One of the coaches got involved and it looked awful.

Different coaching staff, but similar scenario.

KF still is being called a high character coach even with all of the off the field incidents under his watch.....

I think he qualifies as a high character coach.

PR has had his share in the last 2 years...I don't think any less of him and his character.

But then again, I don't take satisfaction when someone in Iowa City gets arrested.

I don't consider it some sort of personal validation as a fan that our program is somehow cleaner than theirs and that must be why they're better than us.

This situation was reportedly going to get swept under the rug with Sims.

We already know that a prior coaching staff tried to do so with the Berryman window situation.

We're no different than any other school in terms of giving our best athletes special treatment and the benefit of the doubt over and over again.

So... if this is true... can't Sims get the trial delayed until after the season is over? Then ISU just says that they aren't going to discipline him until after the court case?

And no... I'm not knocking Iowa here, I'm serious. Everyone is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, correct?

So Sims gets a court date after the season, then pleads guilty, gets slapped on the wrist and goes to the NFL. He's a senior anyway.

Isn't that how it's supposed to work?

I certainly home not, for a variety of reasons. 1) If David has done anything, he doesn't learn that there are consequences to actions. Better to learn that now rather than before one does something stupid with even greater consequences. And 2), there are another 100 or so kids in the program who will be taught that there are not consequences to actions. For the program longer term, that would actually be worse.

If this did happen, and it is minor, I'd rather see an early season suspension so that he can be punished and learn from it with a court date after the season. But regardless of whether or not he is guilty, he's probably in trouble with the staff if for no other reason than guilt by association. You are who your friends are.

I mean this in all sincerity when I say that this message board has some of the dumbest, delusional fans in all of college football.

(oh yeah, well you're the leader of them...yeah, yeah, yeah)

If guilty of this, doesn't he have to be gone for the season? This is pretty serious stuff.

Hopefully someday we will have THE dumbest, most delusional fans, because it's nice being the best at something.

If they can get the case transferred to Johnson County, then the court date will probably be set for July, 2015. Aren't we still waiting for the two UofI football players who raped the co-ed a few years ago to go to trial?
