As it stands:

Slovenia - 4
USA - 2
England - 1
Algeria - 0

Remaining games:

England vs. Algeria
USA vs. Algeria
England vs. Slovenia

USA absolutley has to beat Algeria. So, assuming they win:
If England wins out, US moves on along with England
If England ties Slovenia and either ties Algeria, US moves on along with Slovenia
If England loses to Slovenia and beats Algeria, US moves on along with Slovenia

Algeria has just become Publiic enemy number one for the next few days unless they win big against Brits.

US World Cup Scenarios

I want to preface this by saying that it is very dangerous to make any assumptions in WC games, because these are essentially like all-star games with most teams not having that much time together and the small countries are better than many give them credit for.

Scenarios
US can not advance if they lose against Alg.

US can advance with a tie against Alg. if Eng. ties their remaining two games and scores less goals in the last two games than the US.

US is guaranteed to advance if they win by 2 or more against Alg.

If the US wins by 1 against Alg. they do not advance if Eng. beats Alg., Slo. and Eng. tie and both of the following happen - Slo. scores more goals in the final game than the US and either Eng. beats Alg. by more than 1 or scores more goals in the final two games than the US.

Re: US World Cup Scenarios

Should be a lot clearer after the England Algeria game. The bottom line is we'll most likely have our fate in our own hands.

Looks like Carragher will miss the Slovenia match for England. That could hurt.

Great chance for the US if England and Algeria can end up in a tie. Then its pretty much win and you're in for the US.

Huge. Now USA is in if they win. They have 2 more goals scored than England.

Re: US World Cup Scenarios

Massive Result for Algeria and the USA for that matter. 1st Clean Sheet ever for Algeria in a World Cup in 8 matches.

Win and we are thru to the next round. With an England win over Slovenia we can/should win the group.

England has to be one of the most disappointing squads so far. They were even having some say they were in a select group of favorites and they have played to 2 draws with the USA and Algeria. That does not bode well for them.

Okay could someone break it down for me, lets say England ties Slovenia and US ties Algeria. Slovenia and who else would advance?

If that scenario plays out then Slovenia would win the group. England and the US would tie for 2nd and it would come down to goal differential.
