Our logo fits in with their fascination of letters:jimlad:

Seriously, we are a member of the AAU, have a full stadium for football pretty much every game, and we can compete against most of the teams in that conference in any sport.

I thought of this the other day - add in the Nebraska N, the Mizzouri M. Lots of letter logos in the Big 10!

That's actually a nice little site. All it needs is content. Good work.

Starting off the website with how we are a wrestling institution would only drive the Big 10 elsewhere. What does that bring to the table for them?

Also, while wrestling is bigger in Iowa than other places it doesn't mean that ISU is an institution for it. The majority of fans, ISU included, could care less about wrestling.

Wrestling is still a sport, and one that we specialize in and (should be) national title contenders each year. I don't feel you can completely discount that sort of prestige in a sport, especially when we have similar prestige now in WBB and Volleyball as well.

I'm not ready to completely give up the idea of ISU ending up in the Big 10. But I will say, anyone who thinks this isn't the best possible scenario for ISU is crazy. Geographically it's an amazing situation.. especially if Nebraska is there. You'd have at least 3 conference rivals within essentially a three hour drive (Nebbie, Minnie, and Iowa). Add in a couple more hours, and you could get to Mizzou or Wisconsin. Hell, at 6 hours you could go to either Northwestern or Illinois. GREAT location-wise.

I would have to disagree. I think the state of Iowa, including the universities, are an institution for wrestling. And although the interest isn't as high as basketball or football, I'm sure many ISU fans actually do care.

I like the site. However the Big 10 does not care if we bring competitive sports. They only care if we bring dollars. Right now we don't. They already have the Big 10 network in all of the state. So we can't help that way. Our revenue is next to nothing compared to them. I think this is all a pipe dream.
I think Jamie probably already has plan a, b, c, d, and if need be plan E.

And many do care, but the majority don't. The fact of the matter is the Big 10 isn't going to come calling because we have a great wrestling program. Or a WBB program.

I wasn't discounting it as a sport of ISU's dominance in it. But do you really want that to be your first foot forward in courting the Big 10? It would be the first and last step.

Does it really hurt to point out one of our strengths? And besides, it's not the first thing on there.. it does point out our loyal fan following, which for traveling purposes does help to generate revenue for ticket sales, which would be nice for all those schools that would be geographically VERY close to us in the Big 10. Carver Hawkeye Arena would get to sell tickets for 1 game every year, instead of every other year.

Negative posts do nothing good for ISU. Please stop with them.

AMEN. Thank you.

Posting over and over again how it doesn't make sense for ISU to be in the Big 10, and nobody cares about Volleyball, Wrestling, WBB, etc. etc. blah blah blah doesn't do anyone any favors.

Although, if people have a concrete suggestion on something to add to the website that would look good to include.. I think this would be a good place for it.

Nice site. Good listing of things to consider for Big 10 expansion. Not sure I can add anything to it, but I like the site and would consider sending it to JP and GG (plus Senators Harkin and Grassley) so they are aware of it.

Not a bad idea.. I wouldn't be surprised if they (more likely JP and GG) found it anyways, but still.

ISU to Big 10 | Welcome

In a post started by timh4isu, yesterday, a bunch of reasons were posted as to why ISU should be considered for the Big 10. Within that post, there was a call for more organization in such an effort like there was in the mascot voting a few years ago.

CR.com member TravISU answered that call and created ISU to Big 10 | Welcome based on the info posted in that thread(not all posts are credited, yet, due to the late night - they will be soon) Now the challenge is to you to come up with other logical reasons and post them here (not flames). We'll get them transfered to the public site but want this community or other Cyclone online communities to source them.

No need to post about how this maybe too late or meaningless (we understand that) or that TV sets are the only possible criterion (we're looking past that to make a case).

Feel free to start with these topics
*AAU membership
*Stated criteria from the Big 10
*Wrestling's fit & the loss to that sport if ISU has to cut budget by going to a smaller conference.

I would suggest that most people outside of Iowa think ISU is a very small school. It isn't. It is just as large as Neb and Mizzou. Seriously, even a lot of Iowa fans think ISU is much smaller than Iowa and it is not.

I would look into average ACT/SAT scores, my guess is ISU stacks up ok with the other b10 schools.

I would do some work on how many research dollars ISU brings compared to others. Lot of people have no idea ISU does research, lot of people think it is a junior college type of thing on the level of K-State.

I would also suggest showing people how many people ISU draws to home games for Bball and Football, again, most people think we draw 15K for football games.

Let me see if I can be more clear.

Concrete suggestion: The Big 10 doesn't care about the non revenue sports. They just don't. IMO it's foolish to include that as a reason for them to come calling.

They care about cold hard cash. That should be your focus.
