Texas Tech 10 Million Dollar Portal Season

1 million % the bolded part above.

That is why allowing, or in this case not punishing, gambling in a sport by anyone that can determine its outcome.... is the absolute WORST thing that can happen to a sport to end it.

As the poster above says.... even if the games are still legit... if you give the fans any reason to believe that they may no longer be legit... that's all it takes. I would never go to any athletic event if I wasn't sure that the outcome might already have been determined. That's why I don't get pro wrestling at all.... but I get it that some people are into glorified scripted soap operas I guess? Good for them... not my thing.
Agreed. Just wait til something fishy looking happens late in a game. Whether it’s a coach kneeling down to preserve the under or scoring late to go over. A big drop or fumble or gaffe late by a typically sure handed player. Or the refs being dumb refs. Once fans start to scrutinize this under the lens of being fixed, it’s hard to come back from that.

I don’t know about everyone else, but I think I’ve found the cliff. Outside of ISU games, I’m not sure how much I’ll watch. And even ISU road games may be more of having the radio on in the garage. 5 years ago that would have sounded crazy to me.
Depending on how this case goes, this may be completely it for me. Sorsby may be the worst, but he probably isn’t the only player betting on his team. And if the NCAA can’t punish players for betting on their team, it’s going to make the problem even worse. And I have better uses for that time and money.

I’m getting close to pulling the plug anyway and this may be what ends up pushing me over the edge.

Sorry if already discussed

But any chance Tech is kicked out of the big 12?

Conduct detrimental to the league. There has to be a clause in there somewhere, right?

Edit: maybe this,

A Member (a “Withdrawing Member”) may Withdraw, or shall be deemed to have Withdrawn, as a Member of the Conference: (ii) if a Supermajority of Disinterested Directors by affirmative vote determines that such Member: (D) otherwise takes or fails to take actions that are determined by a Supermajority of Disinterested Directors to be contrary to the best interests of the Conference taken as a whole.

Zero chance although that would be amazing. Probably just results in Cambell just reminding Yormark again that the big12 runs through Lubbock and gets him to sign off on another bill for Congress lol

If there was only some rules set in place that all universities would had to adhere to. And an organization that sets these rules which has elected members from these universities…

Reminds me of the “no government” episode from Family Guy. Everything was running smoothly with government, chaos erupted without government, then they formed a “new” form of government

It's honestly surprising to me college football avoided this for as long as it did. Every other professional sport had to get at least limited antitrust protection to establish fixed rules with teeth to keep things like this out of court, and college football may, in aggregate, be worth more than all of them.

The minute players went to court to get around rules about player earnings and eligibility and the NCAA lost, all bets were off for college sports as a free association of academic institutions.

The only good news from this latest incident is it gets us closer to the endgame more quickly.

I wonder if the 15 other ADs have the stomach to give tech the ultimatum: you agree not to play Sorsby or you forfeit your membership in the Big 12. Right now, I don’t think Texas Tech has any friends in the SEC or Big 10 even if they tried to buy their way in.

No, they are all big talkers but pussies when it comes down to it.

I equate it to the show Big Brother, they all talk a big game but then all end up voting the same way because they are scared to make someone else mad.

The more I think about it the more elements of this pisses me off/flabbergasts me
  • When this happened to ISU, our players got charged CRIMINALLY. Why is Soreby not being charged with anything. In addition to him betting, he had relatives/friends betting on his behalf. That doesn’t violate Indiana/Ohio state laws at all?

  • How morally bankrupt is Texas Tech. I think we all thought the ISU/Iowa investigation was a dog and pony show. But no one at either school or fan base thought we should fight the charges. Texas Tech is a party fighting on this kid’s BEHALF. How decrepit can you be?

  • Every single Sportsbook should be going after this kid in court. This result today puts their enterprise at risk. Their livelihood depends on the integrity of the sport.
I usually try to see both sides of an issue, but this takes the cake. I just can’t even
I wish I could agree with, like, crown this post as champion 1000 times. Perfectly said.

This would be fantastic. Having a local judge slap an injunction on an NCAA suspension for targeting would break the sporting world. Make sure to do it on a Friday. And have the judge threaten large fines or even jail time for any official that tries to enforce the suspension.

You and everyone else will keep watching.

When karma catches up and Sorsby blows out his knee, TT and their resident idiot Campbell will probably sue the defender that hit him.

Everyone, I’m done watching. Those exact same people on all the threads keep commenting and showing that not only are they watching, but the ratings were at a record not seen in years last season
I’ll only speak for myself, but I probably watched less college football last year, and cared about it the least since I started watching college football. My interest has been going down for years, but this would be an easy way to cut the fandom.

I do think there’s an issue if your most loyal fans are saying “I’m losing interest.”

Or are like many have posted your just getting older and finding other ways to spend your time?

I’m down for whatever you want to do but these comments always come off like when people were trying to boycott the NFL.

What are the odds he plays?
