Realignment Megathread (All The Moves)

Just have to ask one question. Would you rather watch an ABC triple header of SEC games on ABC or a triple header of B1G games (random channels) on a CFB Saturday?
I haven’t watched a Big 10 game all season on TV, maybe a part of one like if Iowa is about to get beat and I want to see the crowd reaction. I maybe watch an SEC game to root against Texas or Bama or OU. To tell you the truth I don’t think I have ever watched the OuT game when OU was in the Big 8 or when both were in the Big 12 and definitely not now. Long way of saying I would have 0 percent chance watching a Big 10 triple header and a 2 percent chance of watching an SEC triple header. I think for the general public an SEC game is a lot more interesting than watching Minnesota vs Illinois.

So, I am trying to be fair here. I am an Iowa State fan first and foremost, and I go to or watch all of their games and other Big XII games of interest. I also like both the SEC and the B1G for the LIVE experience.

I have been to most of the stadiums in both conferences. However, if I watch a random games or series of games, I am more likely to get sucked into the SEC triple header on ABC than the B1G garbage spread out all over the place.

I know that might sound contradictory, as I would equally love to go to a random B1G Game (Purdue @ Minnesota game - last B1G game I saw in person) as much as I would like to go to a random SEC Game (Miss. State @ Mizzou - last game I saw in person), but I'd rather watch paint dry than watch a B1G triple header on a CFB Saturday!

The B1G just does not have the same quality inventory that the SEC has on a weekly basis.

When the Big 10 was 10 teams, it had a lot better quality inventory than it does now. When Hayden Fry coached in the 1980s, Iowa was a lot better to watch than it is now. The Big 8 had even better inventory.

The worst thing about realignment is you have a lot of games with teams who have zero, one or two win teams playing meaningless games. Big 10 is full of meaningless games. SEC less so.

It’s Iowa
Didn't Oregon and Washington come in on a hugely reduced share to begin with? I don't follow the stuff very close, but I thought they weren't supposed to even get any kind of yearly bump until the next media deal. Now Oregon wants a larger chunk than the majority of the Big 10? I love it. Let the fighting begin!! Too Bad the Big 10 didn't get Texas too, this could have been really fun.

No fighting the entire PE deal was killed weeks ago as it should be.

They are on a very reduced share in the big ten though, that part is right

I want to say their entered the Big10 with similar media payout as we get. They then get an increase of $1 million a year for every year of the media deal. When new media deal is negotiated, then I believe they will get a full share.

If Big 12/ACC & other schools watch B1G/SEC games they are greasing the skids for a P2 of 40-48 teams where everyone else is left out or are left to be the Washington Generals for teams in the P2(we already are close to that with the revenue differences).

The networks need to get the message CFB needs to be a national sport to maintain a national interest. With all the money CFB is already bordering on a minor league sport. People watched CFB in the past for the rivalries and because their team had a seat at the table. Viewers need to send the message they are not interested if it continues down this road.

This definitely means the CFP. Fans definitely shouldn't watch B1G/SEC matchups in the playoffs. Hopefully, that tells the CFP it needs to remain national and a 24 team playoff gives 4 auto bids to the current P4, 2 to G5 schools and 6 at large bids. This is the participation the B1G and ACC should be trying to get implemented. This doesn't fix the revenue differences but at least keeps the CFP achievable in other leagues.

Was it? Didn’t Michigan State receive some type of $401 million “donation” that set up some type of sports entity/business within the athletic department?

Yep it’s a donation for sparty to set up their own capital fund for the AD, no outside ties, part of a 1 billion dollar fund raise project to redo basically every atheistic facility on campus plus fund NIL for the foreseeable future
