Matt Campbell to Penn State??

I knew it was remote, but damn State College is in the middle of nowhere. It's about the same distance from State College to Pittsburgh as it is from Ames to Minneapolis. I guess Harrisburg is only 90 minutes away.
It is in middle of the state far from the big PA cities of Pittsburgh and Phily, but they pack a huge stadium all in PSU gear every time I visited (work with PSU Eng grads in NY), so have a big fan base that comes from somewhere. Probably helped by not a lot of competition on east coast for big time football

We are what we are, the only way we are going to get a really good coach to come here and stay is to get an older coach that has spent years working his way up as either a head coach at the lower levels or someone like Snyder at KSU that was approaching the point that its either now or never to be a head coach. The problem with getting another young guy is that you may be in the same situation 5 years from now, program has success and the bigger dogs come around sniffing.
No older coach is appealing to young kids. Just find the next Campbell. That's what we need to do. Hopefully he sticks around half as long. I do agree with you in that "we are what we are".

I was only half joking when I said 75% of Pitt students are Penn State fans earlier in the thread.

I lived in the Oakland neighborhood of Pittsburgh for 4 years (and even took a differential equations class at Pitt one summer). The amount of Penn State gear you see is amazing.

At least it was in the ‘90s.
