Earlier this week, Fred Hoiberg noted that one of the top pitches he delivers to recruiting targets is Hilton Coliseum and Iowa State’s fan base. Before Sunday’s showdown with Michigan, one of America’s top prep basketball players confirmed that the Cyclones were using this very strategy.

“They say it is one of the best places to play. The fans are amazing so I am waiting to see that,” Rashad Vaughn said. “It’s crazy. They are lined up outside and were out there last night. It should be a crazy atmosphere.”

Vaughn, a 6-foot-5, 200-pound shooting guard out of Findlay Prep in Henderson, Nev., officially visited Iowa State this weekend. It is the first official visit of five that Vaughn says he will take. Up next is UNLV in two weeks. Then, Rivals.com’s 7th ranked prospect in America, will pay a visit to North Carolina at some time after that.

“I’m trying to decide,” Vaughn said. “It’s still a hard decision.”

Vaughn noted that he has not decided which schools will get his final two official visits.

“Really just relationships,” Vaughn said when asked about what he is looking for. “That’s really what it is going to come down to.”

Which school does Vaughn have the best relationship right now?

“Probably here because they’ve been recruiting me since the ninth grade,” Vaughn said.

Fred Hoiberg and assistant coach Matt Abdelmassih have handled his recruitment.

Iowa State signed point guard Clayton Custer to its 2014 recruiting class earlier this week. He too is in attendance for the Michigan game. As is Jameel McKay, a verbal commitment/Marquette transfer. Other younger prospects are in attendance as well.
