Cyclone Roundup: May Madness

Yesterday wasn’t your typical May 7 in the world of Iowa State basketball. A lot went down.

Think you might have missed a link or two? We’ve got you covered in this installment of the Cyclone Roundup.

Otzelberger to Washington

Fred Hoiberg’s former associate head coach T.J. Otzelberger accepted a similar job at the University of Washington – that is the story that made most of the headlines. Here are the links…

*** Otzelberger told me that his goal of becoming a head coach and also scenarios within his family led him to the decision.Cyclone Fanatic

*** Former Nebraska coach Doc Sadler is the early front-runner to replace Otzelberger at this hour. What if it isn’t Doc though? I came up with three other names that made sense. Cyclone Fanatic

*** My good pal Brent Blum stopped by the home office last night and we recorded this podcast recapping all of the news. Cyclone Fanatic

*** The Otzelberger news did not affect the commitment of 2014 point guard prospect Clayton Custer. Cyclone Fanatic

The New Deal

Details of Fred Hoiberg’s new contract with Iowa State were released yesterday as well.

What’s important?

The buyout on Hoiberg’s contract if he were to leave for another college job is a cool $2 million.

The buyout however drops to $500 thousand if "The Mayor" would leave for the NBA.

Football: Tulsa game time set

*** Conference USA announced on Tuesday that Iowa State’s Sept. 26 road trip to Tulsa will be a 6:30 p.m. kick on one of the FOX networks.
