Brendan Sorsby
I swore on my mother that I would quit talking about Brendan Sorsby and here I am bringing him up. Now I am starting to feel like an addict because no matter how much I try and shake this topic, it just keeps coming back.
Sorsby applied to the supplemental draft, and it turns out that the NFL didn’t want to hold one. They even wrote a letter to Brendan declining his petition to enter. You can say what you want about Brendan and his situation, but when the NFL says no, then you know something is seriously wrong. After all, that is a league that has no shortage of players with a rap sheet longer than a roll of toilet paper.
Of course, Sorsby is going to do what he does best and sue somebody to get his way. Whether he waits until next year, becomes a free agent, or possibly try to come back to college football, who knows but what I do know is that his lawyer is making a killing.
At this point, if anyone needs rehab, it’s me because I am going to drive myself crazy with this entire Brendan Sorsby saga. This feels like bad cut that won’t heal. No matter how much I try and wrap it up, it just starts bleeding again.
Cheers to Beers
When the news broke that Iowa State would be selling alcohol inside Jack Trice and Hilton Coliseum, nobody was happier than me. Ok, maybe some of you were but I was happier than a pig in shit.
One of my favorite things to do at football games is tailgate which includes drinking beer with friends. Now I can do that inside the stadium? Sign me up please. It’s a shame it took this long but it’s better late than never.
Obviously, the money left on the table was too much to ignore. In today’s world of college athletics money is everything and for schools in the Big 12, we need all the help we can get.
What I also like is that EVERYONE can purchase an alcoholic beverage. It doesn’t matter how much you donate; you can now buy a beer if you want to even if you don’t donate a penny. But think about it, a person spends their hard-earned money buying tickets, parking, food, why not give them an opportunity to buy a cold beer? Hell, they earned it by just being there and not sitting at home.
On top of that, I like the no re-entry. It stops those people from leaving at halftime to go get their beers in the tailgate lot. The stands won’t look as empty for the third quarter and that alone will help Iowa State.
As great as this is, it also is hard for me to let go of certain things. I can remember less than a year ago, when a certain someone kept saying there was no chance of this happening and that they were worried about safety.
It’s already been shown that less incidents occur when stadiums sell booze because when you pay stadium prices, you aren’t going to slam drink after drink like you would in the parking lot. Of course, that doesn’t apply to everyone either.
For the slobs like me, we may have lost a few battles here and there but at the end of the day, we won the war. And thanks to that, I can finally crack a cold one open with 60 plus thousand of my closest friends and cheer on the Cyclones. Cheers!
