Iowa State lands their first specialist of the 2027 class with the commitment of five-star kicker William Bowers.
The Elizabethton, Tennessee native is rated the No. 12 kicker in the 2027 class by Kohl’s kicking, making him a five-star by their evaluation.

“Bowers is continuing to develop into one of the best ball strikers in his class and he had another excellent showing at the 2026 Kohl’s National Underclassman Challenge. He scored 20 points in the field goal charting and was excellent in the competition portions of camp. He has consistent steps in his approach and he excellent command of his ball/foot contact. He scored 108.35 points in the kickoff charting and produced a big ball of 74 yards with 3.65 seconds of hang time. William Bowers was a consistent performer throughout the 2025 Kohl’s Eastern Winter Showcase in Pittsburgh, demonstrating control and rhythm. He won the kickoff competition, scoring 102.8 points during kickoff charting with a best hit of 67 yards and a hang time of 3.8 seconds. During his charting session, he also scored 13 points on field goals. Bowers previously showcased his skills at Kohl’s National Scholarship Camp in July 2025, where he earned 106.9 points on kickoffs and 29 points on field goals across three charting sessions. His 5-star rating at the initial ranking camp reflects his potential as a top-tier kicker. With this impressive performance, he is expected to attract significant college interest in the upcoming year. Dependable mechanics were evident throughout the event, proving he can hold his own against high-level peers.”
Bowers is the 19th commit of Iowa State’s 2027 class that ranks 37th nationally by 247Sports.
