AMES — The mood in the Iowa State football facility is seemingly a little on edge after the Cyclones’ back-to-back close losses. That probably isn’t surprising to anybody that’s watched ISU give up fourth quarter leads the last two weeks to, at the time, No. 13 Baylor and Oklahoma State.
“Well, I’m ticked,” head coach Matt Campbell said during his press conference on Monday. “I think I kind of made that known. I hope our kids are ticked, too. I would be if I was a player. Everybody’s just a little bit ticked and I think that’s permeating through our doors, I would hope.”
There’s nothing wrong with Campbell and everyone else in the program being angry. In fact, it is somewhat refreshing to hear him come out and say it with such emphasis.
The key for Iowa State now is to channel that anger into its preparation for the rest of the season rather than dwelling on it. Campbell doesn’t think he’ll have to hammer that fact home with his players.
“Eighteen to 22 year olds have a memory of about two seconds,” Campbell said. “The reality of those guys thinking about that a week from now, I would be hard pressed to think that’s the case. Now, do we have to learn from our mistakes and do we have to realize that we can’t turn the ball over and do some of those things that we did to lose the game, yeah we have to. But, I think worrying about that is foolish.”
Injury notes
*** Campbell said safety Kamari Cotton-Moya is “day-to-day” after he didn’t play against Oklahoma State. It is unclear what Cotton-Moya’s injury is as Campbell just said he was “dinged up.”
*** Trever Ryen isn’t back at full-go yet after suffering an ankle injury against Oklahoma State, according to Campbell. He said he would have more of an update for us at media availability on Wednesday.
