Millard South Jett Thomalla (4) looks for receivers against Basha during a game at Basha High School in Chandler, Arizona, on Friday, Aug. 30, 2024.
One of the highest-rated commits in Iowa State history has flipped his commitment on Tuesday. On3Sports.com reports that four-star quarterback Jett Thomalla is going to Alabama.
Thomalla announced his commitment to Matt Campbell’s program on April 18 but Alabama swooped in with an offer less than a month later on May 15. The Omaha native also held offers from Iowa, Arizona, Missouri, Virginia Tech and others.
The 6’5, 195 pound Elite 11 product told Cyclone Fanatic on May 21 that Iowa State understood his interest in Alabama but was still going to recruit him just as hard.
“They’re just really easy to get along with. Coach Waters went through the same process with Kansas State and Penn State, so they’ve done it before,” Thomalla said. “So did Coach Campbell. They kind of understand and in the end, obviously, they’re still going to recruit me really hard.”
Even with the decommitment, Iowa State still has commits from five of the top 10 players in Nebraska for the Class of 2026. On3Sports.com has Thomalla as the No. 13 rated quarterback in the country.
As of now, ISU doesn’t have any other QB commits in the 2026 class but Rocco Becht has at least one year remaining with a chance for two depending on his decision after this season. Redshirt freshman Connor Moberly and incoming freshman Alex Mankse are both on scholarship through at least 2028.
