Jacob Frost Earns All American Status; Evan Frost Falls Just Short in Emotional Night for Iowa State

PHILADELPHIA – There’s a lot of emotions wrapped into Friday night of the NCAA Wrestling Championships or better known as the “Blood Round”.

Evan and Jacob walked into the evening together as the lone Cyclones left in the tournament. It felt like a poetic twist that almost seemed scripted.

Jacob fought his way back from a two-takedown deficit to beat No. 14 Sergio Lemley (Michigan) in a 9-8 decision, securing a spot on the podium. Just before that, on the same mat, Evan saw his tournament end just short of All American status in a tough 4-2 loss to No. 8 Braeden Davis (Penn State).

Jacob will wrestle one more match where he will go against Minnesota’s No. 6 Vance Vombaur for seventh place.

Beyond the results of the Blood Round, it’s impossible to ignore the emotions behind it all.

“That was a contrast of emotions. You’re dying for one of them and the other one is on top of the world,” said head coach Kevin Dresser at the conclusion of the session. “You know, that was a different moment. We’ve been sad and we’ve been glad, but at the same time, that was unusual.”

They walked into this tournament side by side, and they’ll walk out of it the same way. But only one will walk onto the mat Saturday.

Iowa State sits in 26th place in the team standings with 16.0 points.
