TULSA, Oklahoma — Five Cyclones will compete in the Big 12 semifinals at the Big 12 Championships after Session I.
- Jacob Frost
- Paniro Johnson
- Cody Chittum
- Evan Bockman
- Daniel Herrera
Kysen Terukina , Evan Frost, Aiden Riggins, MJ Gaitan and Nate Schon are still alive on the consolation side of the brackets.
Frost, Chittum and Bockman all punched their tickets to the 2025 NCAA Championships during the first session.
Five thoughts after Session I:
- Overall, really solid wrestling from the guys headed into the semifinals tonight. They wrestled smart and tough. There was several bonus point wins which is big when you look at the team race.
- Cody Chittum is wrestling like someone who wants to be a Big 12 Champion. He’s been tough and winning in dominant fashion. He racked up three minutes of riding time in one match. This is exactly how the No. 1 seed should be wrestling.
- Daniel Herrera is a BAD man. He notched two pins today. That’s huge. He just continues to grow each week. A true freshman causing havoc. There are only four allocations at heavyweight so he’s wrestling exactly like he needs to in order to steal a bid.
- I’d like to see Paniro Johnson open up a bit more. It would be nice to see him score some more points.
- Evan Bockman has really impressed me today. I’m excited to see how far he can go.
Evan Frost suffers tough loss. Here’s what Coach St. John had to say about his performance:
“He’s got kind of a bum hammy right now, and I think it’s ailing him a little bit. You know, when you get into the second or third day of the National tournament, you’ve got to figure out how to win with those ailments. This is maybe his first real injury. So, him being able to sort that out, mentally more than anything, is going to be big for him. He just has to keep doing what he’s doing and maybe change a couple of things strategically to protect himself a little more moving forward.”
Team Standings:
1. Oklahoma State – 83.0
2. Iowa State- 54.0
3. Northern Iowa – 50.0
4. South Dakota State – 40.0
5. Northern Colorado – 39.5
