HUMBOLDT, Iowa – No. 13 Iowa State (2-2, 1-0 Big 12) got back to winning ways in its Big 12 Conference opener against North Dakota State (0-4, 0-1 Big 12) Sunday afternoon inside Humboldt High School. The Cyclones won six of ten bouts, including four with bonus points, in a 27-12 victory over the Bison.

Cody Chittum and Daniel Herrera each secured pins in the win while Jacob Frost notched a tech fall and Aiden Riggins won via major decision. Osmany Diversent (133), Carter Fousek (149) and Manny Rojas (165) all made their Cyclone dual debuts.

Iowa State improved to 4-0 all-time inside Humboldt High School, the home of head coach Kevin Dresser.

After North Dakota State opened the dual with a decision at 125 pounds, Diversent got the Cyclones on the board at 133 pounds. The Cuba native used two first-period takedowns to defeat Kyle Burwick, 7-3, in his dual debut.

No. 19 Jacob Frost chased bonus points for the Cyclones at 141 pounds. The Cyclone tallied five takedowns in the match as he defeated Kellyn March, 17-2, in 6:46. In another Cyclone debut, Carter Fousek dropped a tough 4-1 decision to No. 30 Gavin Drexler at 149 pounds.

At 157 pounds, Cody Chittum made his season dual debut against NDSU’s Gabriel Schumm. Chittum overcame a 5-1 deficit to tie the match 6-6 late in the third period before pinning Schumm with a cement mixer in 4:50.

Iowa State led 14-6 at the intermission.

Out of the break, NDSU’s Boeden Greenley got a takedown with less than 30 seconds remaining to defeat Rojas at 165 pounds. Riggins got the Cyclones back on track with a dominant 12-2 major decision over Devin Wasley at 174 pounds, his first dual victory of the season.

Nando Villaescusa gave up the first takedown to Aiden Brenot but still came through with a 9-6 decision for the Cyclones. Villaescusa’s gas tank worked to his advantage late in the match as he fended off several late attacks from Brenot.

Herrera closed out the dual with a pin against Drew Blackburn-Forst in 3:59. Blackburn-Forst was looking to go upper body with Herrera, but the Cyclone managed to ward off the throw attempts.

Herrera cradled Blackburn-Forst twice in the match, and the second one stuck, as he put an exclamation point on the dual.
