First team all-state wide receiver Dylan Stecker has had a preferred walk-on offer to Iowa State for while now, and was recently on a visit for the team’s 52-7 win over Arkansas State.
“It’s always good to get down there,” Stecker said. “I have had (the PWO offer) from them for a while now. They’ve been positive conversations – the whole coaching staff is genuinely good people. Derek Hoodjer has given me some really good advice – and they’ve all been saying, ‘really to just keep doing your thing, play on Friday nights and get it done.’ So that’s what I’m focusing on.”
The Spirit Lake prospect has put up big numbers this year, leading the team with 365 yards on 19 receptions with seven touchdowns.
During his junior year, Stecker finished the season with 996 yards on 53 receptions with 14 touchdowns to his name.
The 6-foot-4.5, 205-pound prospect, has earned scholarship offers from both Northern Iowa and South Dakota.
His twin brother, Ethan, is committed to Iowa State under scholarship as a member of the 2025 recruiting class.
“I’m obviously really happy for him,” Dylan said. “I couldn’t be happier. It’s just another piece of the puzzle – it’s competition. You’ve just got to let it motivate you.”
Both of the twins compete as multi-sport athletes in both basketball and track.
Stecker is focused on performing on the field this year and knows that the stats will come, but after his team success.
“The coach here at my high school is a great guy – he couldn’t be better,” Stecker said. “We both know my stats aren’t born – team wins are. Stats will come with team wins, but I need to do what my team needs first and foremost.”
