Here is what head coach Kevin Dresser had to say in a news release:

“We’re really excited about how this season’s schedule came together. I think we have some exciting and challenging matchups for our fans to come see in Hilton and our road schedule should prepare us nicely for March. This squad has the opportunity to build on last season and has the potential to do some special things. We’re excited to get rolling!”

Iowa State’s schedule features 10 opponents who had a top-25 finish in the 2023-24 season.

Thoughts on the schedule:

  • Oklahoma State enters this season in an interesting position. The great John Smith retired so there’s a new sheriff in town in Tulsa named David Taylor. He’s put together an impressive coaching staff and has been killing it in the offseason recruiting talent. It’ll be interesting to see how this new era looks in action. This will probably be Iowa State’s biggest threat in the Big 12 conference.
  • Humboldt Showdown will feature Big 12 foe North Dakota State. Coach Dresser loves to bring a story to a dual and a special feature of his schedule for the past three years has included a dual in his hometown. This season that will take place on Dec. 15 against the Bison. I am curious to find out if there is a connection or if this was the opponent that worked best in the schedule. Regardless, it’s a unique experience in the same high school gym Dresser grew up competing in.
  • Arizona State is officially a member of the Big 12. Head coach Zeke Jones has done a fantastic job making this program a true top contender. Despite losing some guys in the offseason, I think they’re still entering the Big 12 ready to make a statement. Iowa State has had some fun matchups against this team so it’s officially more interesting now with the Big 12 race on the line. I look forward to welcoming the Sun Devils to the tundra in February.
  • Collegiate Duals and the Cliff Keen Invitational will make for great entertainment during the winter slump in December. Iowa State returns to Las Vegas for the Cliff Keen as the defending champions and we’ve seen the Collegiate Duals bring us great action in the past.

Iowa State also announced the dates for their wrestle-offs. These have been a great opportunity for fans to see how the team matches up against each other prior to the season starting. They will be held on the main floor of the Leid Rec Center on Oct. 13 and Oct. 19.
