Iowa State University is partnering with Daktronics, to bring a significant upgrade to Cyclone Athletics venues across its campus according to a release from the company.
The installation involves 23 LED displays totaling more than 20,000 square feet, will enhance the game-day experience for fans of various sports,
including basketball, volleyball, gymnastics, wrestling, soccer, track and field, football, softball, and swimming and diving.
“We are anxious to unveil our new video displays in many of our facilities this fall and believe that Cyclone fans will enjoy an enhanced game-day experience thanks to the state-of-the-art technology upgrades these systems will provide,” Iowa State Director of Athletics Jamie Pollard said in the release. “We believe that our new video displays, coupled with the installation of new audio systems in all of our venues this year, will take our game-day experience to a whole new level.”
The majority of the upgrades are scheduled to be completed in 2024, with the remaining installations finished by 2025. This substantial investment in LED technology aims to improve the overall fan experience, enabling Iowa State Athletics to provide up-to-date visuals and audio enhancements across all its venues.
Hilton Coliseum upgrades
Hilton Coliseum received a significant upgrade with a new center-hung display designed to offer a 360-degree viewing experience for fans. This main video display will measure approximately 15.5 feet high and 113 feet, with a 3.9-millimeter pixel spacing for clear imagery. For fans sitting closer to the action, two displays underneath the center-hung will provide additional viewing content.
In addition to the main displays, a long ribbon board will be installed around the seating concourse. This ribbon board, along with four corner displays, each will feature 10-millimeter pixel spacing as well as five LED scorer’s tables, that will be placed around the court, offering flexibility in arrangement for different events.
Jack Trice Stadium upgrades
Fans at Jack Trice Stadium can look forward to impressive upgrades in 2025, with four new LED displays enhancing the gameday experience. The north end zone display will measure approximately 36 feet high by 157 feet wide, while the south end zone display will be 36 feet high by 79 feet wide.
Both displays will feature improving resolutions compared to the previous ones. Two ribbon displays will also run along the seating front. These displays will complement the main end zone screens, showcasing graphics, animations, and sponsorship content.
Upgrades at other Iowa State Athletic venues
In addition to Hilton Coliseum and Jack Trice Stadium, Daktronics is enhancing several other athletic facilities on campus.
Cyclone Sports Complex (Softball): Set for installation in 2025, this display will measure 14.5 feet high by 26.5 feet wide, with 10-millimeter pixel spacing.
Beyer Hall (Swimming and Diving): An LED display measuring 11.5 feet high by 21 feet wide with 5.9-millimeter pixel spacing will be installed.
Cyclone Sports Complex (Soccer): A display measuring 15.5 feet high by 27.5
feet wide will feature 10-millimeter pixel spacing.
Lied Recreation Athletic Center (Indoor Track and Field): The facility will
receive a display measuring 11.5 feet high by 21 feet wide with 5.9-millimeter pixel spacing.
With these installations, Iowa State’s Athletics Director, Jamie Pollard, expects Cyclone fans to enjoy a significantly enhanced game-day experience, thanks to the upgraded visuals and improved audio systems.
The new technology will not only refresh older installations but will also bring a modern feel to the environment at each venue.
