Ames – Christian Carroll announced his commitment to Iowa State via his Instagram on Thursday morning.

The freshman was previously at Oklahoma State where he was wrestling at heavyweight. He currently projects at 197 pounds.

“First and foremost, I want to thank Oklahoma State University for everything they have given me. My final destination will be Ames, Iowa, and I am proud to be a Cyclone!” said Carroll in his Instagram post.

Carroll will have four years of eligibility remaining, per a press release from Iowa State Wrestling.

“Christian brings a great resume and long list of credentials to Iowa State. His high energy style of wrestling will be a lot of fun for our fans to watch and will fit right in with how we like our guys to wrestle. Christian will start training with us this summer and will immediately raise the level and pedigree of our room,” said head coach Kevin Dresser in press release.

In April, Caroll secured his way to the United States Olympic Team Trials with a first-place finish at the Last Chance Olympic Team Trials Qualifier (97kg). He recently finished in third place at the U23 Nationals at 92kg with wins over Oregon State All-American Trey Munoz and Campbell national qualifier Levi Hopkins. .

Carroll was the No. 2 overall pound-for-pound recruit in the 2023 class, per FloWrestling. Some of his other accolades include two-time U20 World Team member, Junior Freestyle National Champion in 2021 and a two-time Super 32 Champion.

Watch Carroll defeat Iowa football and wrestler Ben Kueter in a 10-0 technical fall at the Junior Freestyle National Championships.
