AMES — Iowa State’s heavyweight, Yonger Bastida has been named the Big 12 Wrestler of the Week for the second time this season. It is the third Big 12 weekly honor of Bastida’s career.
Bastida earns this honor following his major decision win over Missouri’s No. 5 Zach Elam in Sunday’s season finale. Bastida and Elam both came into this much-anticipated matchup undefeated. The Cuban was the main aggressor the entire match in his 13-4 victory.
In his inaugural season at heavyweight, Bastida finished the regular season with a perfect 20-0 record, an 83-2 takedown record, 13 bonus-point victories and six top-10 wins.
