Jake Remsburg, DeShawn Hanika penalties reported

Iowa State football players Jake Remsburg and DeShawn Hanika got a clearer picture, officially, on their eligibility on the field following the gambling investigation conducted by the state this summer, according to report from Keith Murphy.

Remsburg, who is alleged to have placed wagers on non-Iowa State sports, will serve a six-game suspension. That leaves Remsburg eligible to return beginning with Iowa State’s matchup on the road against Cincinnati on October 14.

As part of Remsburg’s penalties, he will also have to pay $1,259 to charity according to the report.

Hanika, who is alleged to have placed wagers on Iowa State sporting events that do not include any football games, has been suspended permanently.

However, the report states that Hanika’s activity was “inflated,” and he and his representation are planning to appeal, seeking a final year of eligibility that was left for Hanika going into the 2023 season.
