AMES, Iowa – David Carr and Sam Schuyler have been named to the 2023 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-America First Team, the organization announced Wednesday.
Carr and Schuyler, who were named to the CSC Academic All-District At-Large team last month, both make the All-America team for the first time in their careers.
Carr put together an outstanding season on the mat, finishing with a 27-1 record. He became the first Cyclone since 2002 to win a fourth Big 12 title and was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Wrestler in the process. The Canton, Ohio native navigated a loaded 165-pound bracket at the NCAA Championships and finished as the national runner-up.
Schuyler posted a 20-5 record in his final season as a Cyclone. He logged 12 wins against ranked opponents, including seven against wrestlers ranked in the top 15. The Kings Park, N.Y. native was the Big 12 runner-up at heavyweight and reached the Round of 12 at the NCAA Championships, finishing one win shy of All-American status.
Carr and Schuyler were also First Team Academic All-Big 12 selections and NWCA scholar All-Americans this season.
Carr posted a 3.86 GPA while Schuyler earned a 4.0 mark during the 2022-23 school year. Both are studying in the education graduate program.
