Ashley Joens was selected as the No. 19 overall pick in Monday’s WNBA Draft, joining fellow Iowa State draftee Stephanie Soares as picks for the league’s Dallas Wings.
“It means a lot,” Joens said on the ESPN broadcast. “Obviously, Coach Fennelly and the staff at Iowa State did an amazing job getting us ready.”
The pair of Cyclones become the 15th and 16th WNBA Draft picks in program history, and also the first since Bridget Carleton was selected in 2019.
“To know that Steph’s also going to be there, and getting the opportunity to play with her again is really exciting,” Joens said.
Joens is the all-time leading scorer in Iowa State history and helped lead the Cyclones to their first Big 12 tournament championship in over two decades in March.
