Sixth-seeded Iowa State to face play-in winner in NCAA Tournament’s first round

Iowa State is headed to the NCAA Tournament for the 21st time in program history.

The Midwest region’s sixth-seed Cyclones will open their Big Dance journey on Friday against the winner of a play-in game between Mississippi State and Pittsburgh in Greensboro.

Iowa State is in the tournament for the second straight season after advancing to the Sweet 16 last year. To get back to the second weekend, Iowa State could face match-ups with three-seed Xavier or 14-seed Kennesaw State.

The Cyclones are one of seven Big 12 teams to make the field.
