Injury report: Norton doubtful, Remsburg ‘an option,’ & more

In Cartevious Norton’s first game as a Cyclone on Saturday, the true freshman flashed his talent in limited touches all over the field.

He was the talk of the game, if you ignore the starting quarterback throwing for four touchdowns in his first start for the program.

Unfortunately for Iowa State fans, Norton’s status for Saturday’s Cy-Hawk game is doubtful.

“Cartevious (Norton), I would say, is doubtful,” Iowa State coach Matt Campbell said. “I don’t know if we’ll even get him to practice this week. Right now, as we go into the week, he’ll be doubtful. I think his injury is just a leg injury. I don’t think it’s anything extended. My hope is 1-2 weeks is what we’d have him out for.”

The true freshman running back suffered a leg injury early in the third quarter and never returned to the field for the Cyclones.

Elsewhere, though, Iowa State’s full two-deep appears to be pretty well off.

Right tackle Jake Remsburg will go through practice this week for the team after an injury cut his fall camp participation short.

“I still think (Remsburg) is an option right now for this game,” Campbell said. “We’ll see what Tuesday and Wednesday look like. He’ll be on the practice field, so I think that’s a huge positive. Will he play? Really I think I could answer that question on Thursday.”

On the defensive side, a pair of safeties that didn’t appear in the team’s 42-10 win over Southeast Missouri State will be available for action.

Redshirt freshman and 6-foot-4 safety Malik Verdon will be on the field for the Cyclones this week.

“Malik is one of those guys,” Campbell said. “Malik will be back to full strength, dressed out for the game. We just made a game-time decision not to play him in the game on Saturday, because he was coming back from an injury at camp.”

He’s listed as the current starter at the safety spot where JUCO transfer Treyveon McGee lines up, as well.

McGee, who sat out last week, should see the field Saturday.

“For (Treyveon McGee) not to play, who was probably the guy that maybe had the best camp of anybody,” Campbell said. “He got dinged up (with) two weeks left in camp. I think he is certainly available for this game this week, which is great for us.
