Cyclones in the NFL: Purdy, Uwazurike stout in final preseason games

Iowa State’s roster of former players in the NFL closed the preseason out on a high note.

*** Brock Purdy led the San Francisco 49ers in a stout performance Thursday against Houston. The quarterback ended the game with a team-high 182 yards on a 13-20 completion rate. He made some impressive throws, too.

***Enyi Uwazurike stood out for Denver and earned a game ball from SI’s Broncos site. Uwazurike recorded two tackles in the game but had a sack taken off the stat sheet after a penalty overturned it. In the same game, Kene Nwangwu earned 14 yards on four carries in limited time on the field.

*** Jake Hummel was again at the top of the tackle charts for the Los Angeles Rams, tallying six tackles in a 16-7 loss to Cincinnati.

*** Landen Akers recorded a pair of receptions for 11 yards in the game for Los Angeles as well.

***Over in Chicago, David Montgomery turned nine carries into 28 yards for a team-high while also catching one pass for five yards. Chase Allen recorded a tackle off of an interception for Chicago and the Browns’ Willie Harvey Jr. did not record any stats in the game.

***Breece Hall was again limited in his carries for the New York Jets, putting through 13 yards on five attempts in the team’s loss to the Giants.

***Mike Rose recorded four tackles for the Kansas City Chiefs in a 17-10 win over Green Bay. Allen Lazard did not play.

*** Michael Jacobson did not record a stat in the Colts’ final preseason game.

Each player is competing to make their team’s final roster – which has a Tuesday deadline of 3:00 p.m. CT. At that moment, each franchise’s 53-man roster will be finalized and Cyclone fans will know where each player lands. We’ll have more updates on what that looks like as rosters become available.
