Where Iowa State stacks up in Lindy’s CFB preview magazine

The summer weather is here and college football magazines are starting to hit the shelves – it’s that time of year in Iowa.

Lindy’s preseason magazine – which picks Iowa State to finish sixth in the Big 12 – is the first to arrive in stores.

We’re breaking down everything it says about the Cyclones:

Lindy’s All-American Team

Iowa State’s Will McDonald was selected to Lindy’s All-American first team as one of four defensive linemen in the country to be selected.

The magazine also rates McDonald as the No. 2 defensive lineman in the nation behind Clemson’s Myles Murphy.

Lindy’s All-Big 12 Teams

Lindy’s released a pair of All-Big 12 teams in its 2022 preview, with three Cyclones landing on the teams.

McDonald was the lone player on the first team out of Iowa State, but Xavier Hutchinson and Anthony Johnson landed on the second team.

The magazine also projects McDonald and Hutchinson as top 10 NFL talents within the conference.

Where the Cyclones stack up

The magazine picks Iowa State to finish sixth in the conference, and says that the program will, ‘probably go bowling, but more than seven wins is a stretch.’

The Cyclones are slated at No. 42 nationally, coming behind No. 36 Kansas State, No. 25 Texas, No. 12 Baylor, No. 10 Oklahoma and No. 9 Oklahoma State.

Teams picked outside of the top 25 get a single-page spread in the magazine, but Lindy’s calls for Iowa State to lean on its returning production in order to return to a bowl game.

Lindy’s calls transfer linebacker Colby Reeder the top newcomer coming into the roster, as well.

As an extra, teams that went to a bowl game last season have a spot that reads, ‘Last time didn’t go bowling,’ on their pages while other teams, like Kansas, just read ‘Last bowl: 2008.’

Iowa State opens the season on September 3, taking on SE Missouri State at Jack Trice Stadium.
